I recently found this factoid regarding Ford Benzol in a 1930 report on Detroit-area industries … “The Ford Motor Co. produces benzol for automobile fuel as a by-product merely of the coking of soft coal. The coking process produces an oil from which the benzol is refined. But this by-product was sold in 1929 for $2,357,050, an increase over 1928 of $500,000. “The use of soft coal merely for the benzol product would be too expensive, hence the production of benzol by the Ford Motor Co. is limited by the amount of coke required for the company's use.” Edited February 26 by allcars Copy edits (see edit history) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
