Interesting I’ll call back tmrw I called last week I was told that they had no idea if or when it’ll come back in stock

Here’s the email

from Jeff- I replied to this message and asked for an update on early Buick Green paint. I’ll advise on the response. IMG_3371.jpeg.347c13c969ebb88a8c5ac073164a951c.jpeg

I plan on getting the engine off the stand tomorrow and get the rear mount/housing assembly installed- I’ll get the motor mounts lagged to the temporary cart and continue to work on engine pieces - mounting them as I go along. Once the engine work is done I’ll focus on the chassis. IMG_3398.jpeg.17211ddcddde578f90605d791a8b726c.jpegIMG_3376.jpeg.e182da52e810cdecf2c155dce01e3c7c.jpegIMG_3242.jpeg.121a48cda6b5286ab6dc4b103c6360f6.jpeg

Having a few issues getting the transmission in- that center hub isn’t aligned with the pilot bearing. Tried a few times by myself and with my lift maneuvering the transmission.  Tried leverage on the pressure plate to align the hub. I’m close but still not there. Time for a break and wait for another set of hands to help me get the hub aligned with pilot bearing.

Had a lot of fun installing the transmission- I managed to get the hub aligned and transmission hung in place

Then removed the transmission, removed the clutch and torqued the flywheel bolts- glad I remembered to torque the flywheel bolts- after that:

Re-installed the clutch, re-installed the transmission. Did you know the lower housing cover installation can’t be done with the transmission in?

Removed the transmission, installed the lower housing. Re-Installed the transmission- again. Installed the closure plate at the front of the lower housing.

Installed shift assembly, brake lever, and linkages. Clutch, brake and starter pedals Good day all in all

Also cleaned up more parts for paint and pulled out the starter and generator for disassembly, rebuild and paint.

Another decent day out in the shop.

Waterpump is free - cleaned it up and painted I’ll need to make/buy a new gasket- I polished the brass parts.

Side covers were cleaned up and painted along with the oil filler and water inlet

i took the horn apart and dipped the cone and rear cover in evaporust. I’ll pull those tomorrow and prep for paint

Starter is working fine- pulled the lever pin and housing- cleaned and painted the starter. Polished the pivot pin and housing

Stripped the valve cover and painted that as well.

I started to get the place straightened up- it’s been a whirlwind these past few weeks

Installed the starter today. Pulled the horn out of evaporust and got that rinsed off. I’ll most likely sandblast the cap and cone.

Focusing on generator next

No real time to work in the shop tonight but I couldn’t help putting the side panels and oil filler loosely in place. It’ll be awhile before I can really handle the pieces as the paint is still not fully hardened.

I really hope the machine shop finishes the head soon….

Quick night tonight- sandblasted the horn components. There was mouse house in the horn at some point during its storage- a tiny amount of corrosion and small holes near the bottom of the horn/ ring area. Wire wheeled all components an along with the side wire cover. A couple quick coats of black enamel.

I did receive a notice from Bill Hirsch- they are shipping my early Buick green paint. I might have enough in the first quart to get the head and miscellaneous parts painted - we’ll see  IMG_3523.jpeg.068180fab0af1018597c88654f59b3e3.jpegIMG_3522.jpeg.faae5052bc343ea60bb4d4396260c877.jpegIMG_3520.jpeg.f77e389d494817ec422af78965760478.jpeg

I’ll need new knobs for this side cover- the pot metal groove the clips ride in are broken

Assembled the horn tonight- still need to wait for the paint to fully cure but I did get to hear it growl. I’ll need to lube the ends of the armature as it is stopping occasionally.

I also hit all the bolts on the chassis with penetrant again tonight - getting ready to take it down to bare frame and rebuild from there

Tuned up the horn today- pretty pleased! I can’t share videos here I don’t think louder than I expected.

I also mounted the water pump- received my gasket from bobs along with a new drive belt.
Not final installed just mocked up in place- all the outer bits will be pulled off before the engine is put in place then mounted/sealed. Need hoses and some better looking clamps

Not a lot done on the Buick lately. I had some repairs to do on my cousins Fiat- plus fighting some back issues. Now that the fiat is out of the garage the chassis is vback in and we can resume where we left off- here are photos of the carb and vacuum can I cleaned up and painted

Feels good to be back in the 27. Passed up working on the generator tonight for a quick hit on the fan assembly-taken apart into the bast cabinet and dressed with the wire wheel- I’ll prep and paint tomorrow.

Check and see if there is very much play between the shaft and the hub. Failure is manifested by the fan going through the radiator! This was a common issue with Buicks into the early 1930s. These have been adapted for sealed bearings since the 1970s when there was a diagram posted in the Buick Bugle magazine. I made adapters for both my Standard and Master. "BOB's" should still have them available.

DSCF1719.JPG.b293ef71351e33a42aa3c9c161336e8f.JPG

First I tried to make new bushings to re-fit to the hub.

It did not work out for me.  So, I made a complete adapter. A lot of machining to be done on the 4" Dia.X4" long piece of aluminum.

Nice work!

I’ll have to check the play/ clearance. It’s not  tight by any means and I’m missing g the felt washer - shaft isn’t deal so far as finish. The new hub with bearings is certainly an option I’m leaning heavily towards. Easy enough to swap out at sometime in the future. I assume there are no modifications I need to consider at this point in the process to adapt for a different hub?

Tonight I assembled the fan/hub assembly- made new gaskets as well. I’ll need to source better hardware. The only stainless hardware I found was not slotted like the original. I’d really prefer to use a new fan hub with bearings when the engine goes back in the car.

Gave the generator an initial cleaning as well- this thing is very grungy. The shaft spins freely. This is the last part I have to go through until I get the head back from the machine shop so we’ll dive into the chassis after this get wrapped up and mounted.

Yes! I received my early Buick green paint about a week ago- perhaps a bit earlier- I’ve been off the Buick project for a bit.

I did talk to the machine shop and I should have my head back in a couple weeks!
