Buick 24/45 Restoration Project

John Nelson

Recommended Posts

Having bought my 24/45 as a restored vehicle that had been in a museum for 50 years I wasn’t originally planning on doing a full restoration of it but after a close evaluation of the car once it was delivered I determined that was what was required. Fortunately I have a good shop and am a retired aircraft mechanic so I have the time to devote to it. The basic car was in fairly good condition but has some missing components as well as some damaged ones. I am very grateful to find how helpful and generous the members of this forum have been with advice and information required to properly restore these old Buicks and will be depending greatly on them during this project.

I sure wish mine had looked like that but I hope eventually it will. I appreciate seeing what the engine compartment is supposed to look like. My firewall was completely cleaned off, not even a Data Plate so I’m still collecting what it’s missing. I was fortunate enough to buy a Stewart Warner Vacuum fuel pump thanks to Hugh spotting and letting me know about it. John

Hugh:

I have offered some items and John said he will get back to me. Again the 1924-45 was a Black only car.

I bid on this 1924-45 at auction in 2010. This shows the correct top patern. Wheel striping is correct.

Alan Wohl and I have early 1925-45s that were also Black. When Buick started using DUCO in mid year 1925 that color was changed to Cobalt Blue. Alan's 1925-45 has all the original body paint and original striping, top and upholstery.
