Interesting early stop light. OEM?

Interesting light, such a common shape/size/style used on so many cars 1927-1933. I always find it curious that the lens makers added the word STOP  in often ridiculously contorted letters instead of having a nice simple faceted pattern.  As if following drivers needed to be told what red light meant. But, I suppose this was in the early days of driving! White or clear upper lens is also puzzling, perhaps an early back-up light? A photo of back side and bucket may narrow search and confirm if it is OEM or A/M.
