Olds Out Of Business

With Olds going out of business, whats the outlook at future Olds car repairs?

Are we going to have to pay double for parts? Anyone have any idea?

Parts prices thru GMSPO are not expected to increase due to Oldsmobile closing in another year or so. Many dealers will continue to service cars and handle warranty repairs. 10 years from now it may get more difficult to find trim and other special parts but mechanical stuff should still be relatively easy to find.

Not sure about that, I work for a GM Dealer and generally, we can go back that far for most parts without problem. I don't see engine and drive train parts as a problem. Same for body parts. What you can't order from GM, should be easy to find in salvage yards for a long time to come.

BUT, if anyone can tell me where to get a Pitman arm for an 85 LeSabre, I'd sure appreciate it. We can't find one (new) anywhere.

You wouldn't think stuff for 77-90 GM B cars would be that hard to find, but I just went thru the same thing trying to find an idler arm for the Custom Cruiser. Think the shop finally found one thru CarQuest. I had to have it too- cracked up on ice back in December and though there was no body damage except for a busted bumper filler, the front suspension took a beating on the right side when I went thru the ditch and off thru that field.

And they called me Griswold all day at work... from when the Family Truckster crashed thru the barricade and went flying across the desert <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />.

I can verify that as an original equipment supplier, we are required to produce service parts for GMSPO for 10 years after end of regular production. I will admit that we do everything possible to reduce that period, such as offering a one time but at lower price etc... as it is a real pain to maintain the original production equipment (and floorspace) while always bringing in new equipment for new products/programs/customers. Our efforts usually fail and we are stuck running small quantities for the ten year period.

Generally it is true but not in all instances! There are times that parts, especially slow moving items like trim pieces are not available! Most dealers have the ability to do a national search of other dealers inventory. Try and find dealers that have a parts manager who is not lazy. I have used this sytem many times for people with pretty decent results.

Hi everyone!

I have a 1969 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe and have had some trouble getting parts, though with all of the resources out on the web I have found what I have needed. The part I cannot seem to find is the front rotors for the power disc brakes. I found one in a junk yard in Florida but it has a minimal surface. One source I have found and can recommend is Fusick Oldsmobile Parts. You can reach them at www.fusick.com and they have PDF manuals. The prices seem to be reasonable too.
