John Lynn
Hello from New Zealand. Just about to start the restoration of a 1919 Nash Sports Tourer which was purchased from the USA a few years ago and has been in storage awaiting the start of a restoration. Overall , the car is in sound condition , engine turns over , body work 90% ok , needs painting and upholstery and general servicing of all mechanical parts to ensure they are all in running condition. Car came with some spares , but not sure we have everything - will find out when I start stripping it down and re-assembling. The most intriguing aspect of the car , is the heater in the floor in the rear passenger area. Looks like it will heat via water circulation , but I haven't been able to find any information in the Parts and Operating manuals I have for the car. Any help would be appreciated. Have attached some photos.
Hans1
Looks like one I have in an Essex. Motor exhaust pipe connection supplies heat. Neat looking but carbon monoxide leaking into car is dangerous. I suspect it could require a lot of driving time to generate enough sensible heat to help. John Lynn
Interesting. It has two pipes undertone floor that feed into the heater. I have no exhaust system to see how it may attach. Agree with carbon monoxide issues. Not much use having a heater in a tourer anyway ! Cheers
John Lynn
Hi. Me again - any chance of a photo of how the exhaust system is set up to connect to heater ?

My 22 Cadillac has an exhaust style heater in it that is disconnected but I have the bits for it, basically there is a butterfly valve cut out in one of the exhausts and a lever on the floor with a ratchet mechanism of how far you want to open it At least in the Victorian climate I don't really need it, there is enough heat coming off the motor to warm up a closed car
HarryLime
These floor mounted units are not heaters as we know them . There is no fan to circulate air . They were known then as "foot warmers". They used exhaust air from a cutout. I had one in the rear floor of a 1926 Paige sedan .
John Lynn
Thankyou for the updates. I think I will leave it as a cosmetic assessor only
