Carter, they used specific models of the AFB for the oem.

Thank you. Just figured out that our 1965 Bamboo Yellow Riviera GS (yes, it is, matching numbers everwhere!) has Edelbrock 4 barrel carbs. Was this considered a positive upgrade to the Carters or a mistake? I've read that the Carters and the Edelbrocks have interchangeable parts and the bodies are both made by Weber. Sounds like Edelbrock is a modern Carter is disguise. What love to know what the word about this "upgrade" is! Thank you very much.

Your Gran Sport has aftermarket carburetors. Your numbers match everywhere but the carbs, apparently.

Not a very helpful comment. Do the carburetors have numbers on them? Do you actually know anything about an Edelbrock upgrade? Does anyone else in the forum know about this upgrade? Was it a popular thing to do?

I would not consider an out-of-the-box Edelbrock AFB clone an upgrade. It's usually done because an owner or technician didn't understand carburetion or how to clean and rebuild the original carb. Sometimes original carbs are damaged beyond repair but an aftermarket carburetor is almost always someone taking the easy way out.

The original Carter AFBs were tailored to the engine's specifics. Edelbrock versions are by necessity one-size-fits-all. Edelbrock DOES support their AFB clone with internal parts that can get it closer to optimal.

Possibly the only ones suggesting that the edelbrocks are an upgrade, are those who are selling the edelbrocks. ;)

GUESSING most reading these threads would consider them a downgrade!

As stated by others in this thread, the original Carters were specifically calibrated for the specific application.

Auto Agent, In answer to your question, the addition of dual edelbrocks is very popular with those converting from a single 4 bbl.
