1964 Riviera 10+ year old gas------does gas tank have a nut to drain?

Does 64 Riviera gas tank have a dependant  nut to get the gas out.......or do I have to siphon it out? Gas is at least 10 years old and smells like shellac. I was going to clean out the carbs also prior to startup.

Don't know about the nut but I'd check your sending unit.I had the same type gas in a mustang that sat for years,pulled the sending unit and it looked like it was dipped in mollasses.

No drain plug. Use a hand operated siphon pump only. Not electric.

 

It's not a huge operation to drop the tank Its your best chance to clean it out. If you take it out remove the sending unit and put a length of chain in the tank. Start shaking. Rinse and repeat.

Remove the sending unit hose from the frame. Start a siphon & most all of it will drain out.

Then remove the tank & sending unit & clean as nec.
