Gary V
A friends 1940 Buick had a hard/no start issue while at his mechanics shop. Mechanic tested the ignition switch, found 6.6 volts going in, 3.8 and less coming out to the coil. He installed a bypass switch as a temporary fix, car started right up. He's having zero success locating an ignition switch. Anyone know who might have one, or, if there is an interchange that would work with that lock cylinder ? EmTee
Can the original be disassembled and repaired/refurbushed? It sounds like dirty contacts...
Gary V
Not sure about disassembly. I haven't seen it and he doesn't know much about the switch etc., which is why I posted here. Anyone familiar with these switches ?
1939_Buick
Did he bypass the switch on the carburettor? Download the 1942 Buick shop manual for free. All of it section by section. Or click the pdf link to pay. http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Buick/1942/Shop Manual/ It is very comprehensive and has information that can be used with all straight 8’s. It has more information than was included in older “Shop Manuals” before 1942 http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Buick/1942/Shop Manual/13 Electrical System/image11.html
Century Eight
The switch on the carb must be clean, and like 39-Buick suggested, get a shop manual. I went thru similar issues on my 50, and it was the carb switch. There is a ton of info in the manual
