1925 Buick Headlight Bezel

Hi everyone - I am still shaking down my roadster by driving it a few miles at a time and then making repairs and adjustments.... When I pulled into my shop after my last 1 mile excursion I noticed that one of the headlight bezels was loose and it and the glass lense almost fell off the headlight. Thank goodness I caught the problem in just in time. Inspecting the other headlight I found it was also loose. However I cant figure out the best way to get the bezel tight on the headlight. I have attached a few photos that show the assembly. Any ideas?

Thanks Ken

Hi Larry - Thanks for the explanation and photos. I thought I was missing something! I will need to fab up 6 of them.  I will find some springy metal and it looks pretty straightforward but any tips, dimensions, etc., you might have when you made yours would be appreciated.

Thanks for helping

Ken

Ken,

1925 Buick headlight clip drawings courtesy of Kevin Roner, then I did a redraw and I show using cork or rubber to maintain the spring or if you just use regular sheetmetal you need the cork to provide the spring.    The cork can be glued to the steel with RTV  or silicone caulk.  The Z shaped clips on the back of the headlight bezel look to need to be straightened as well.  Rotate the bezel counter clockwise for removal.

Hugh - The Z clip on bezel that was on the car which almost fell off is the same as the photo of the bezel that you attached To your post. I thought my dad just used these bezels while his original bezels went off to the plater. He never had time to put them on the car. I attached a couple photos of the bezel which is still wrapped in plastic from the plater. Note that the z clip on these bezels are open on the bottom rather than the top. Do you know if this makes a difference? Or maybe dad plated a bezel that was not original to the car?

Hugh - You mentioned before that very few parts interchange between the Master and the Standard. Even to the point of placing the Z clip opposite on a headlight bezel? Seems like a lot of expense for Buick to change things up at that level to me... Oh well.

  • 3 weeks later...

I fabricated the 6 brackets for the 2 headlight bezels from your drawings. They don't look original but they work great. Thanks for providing the drawings! I made a paper template with the 10 1/2” diameter radius and cut the pattern out of 0.03” sheet metal. I used a piece of Tygon tubing to provide the “springiness”. Thank you for helping me. I would not have figured this out on my own.
