1937hd45
When you find time, look at your spring U Bolts. Guess all of mine were a bit longer than needed and they were trimmed with a bolt cutter once the nuts were tightened. This buggered the nuts when they were removed. Odd 3/8 x 14 on the back ones, have to order the tap and die to chase the threads. Bob Edited July 28, 2020 by 1937hd45 (see edit history)

1937hd45
Found the odd 7/16 - 14 tap & die on eBay, die was a hex not round worked out fine. Still think is is so crude that they trimmed the U bolts with a pair of bolt cutters. Model T Fords of the same era used fine threads, ends drilled for cotter pins & castle nuts. 1908 - 1948 same design.
