Bimus
Has any one tried using a battery from a impact tool or drill for the trailer brake away brakes ?
Guest
It sounds like a good idea but a lead acid battery is about 1/2 the cost.

Yes...I use a gel cell motorcycle battery.........works great, affordable, and I carry a spare new one in the trailer also. They tend to check them often now if your pulled over or stopped on the side of the road. I work on the theory of having a safety kit behind my front seat........jack, flares, triangle, lug wrench, safety vest, flashing strobes, ect..........cops usually see that you're trying and they leave you alone.
Bimus
My thinking was I go sometimes long times between times I use that trailer and when I do I always have battery powered tools with me and extra battery's for them .
Bimus
I hooked up the 18 volt battery from a Dewalt drill to my 2 axle car trailer and it will skid the tires when empty I will have to test how much braking it has when loaded but so far it looks good. Robert G. Smits
What a great idea. Since I always carry a DeWalt impact wench and 2 or 3 batteries. What type of adapter did you use between the battery and the break away switch? Thanks
Bimus
I had 2 DeWalt drills 14.5 and 18 volt and there battery's look the same but won't enter change I took a old drill apart and removed the part that plugs in to the battery and solder a lead to each wrapped it with electrical tape this will plug in to both battery's .
