Love old car books

My dad told me about the trick in the bottom left hand corner on page 122. But what he told me had nothing to do with reflective tape.  He advised me that the very first thing you do when you have a flat is to throw the spare tire on the ground close to the lane of oncoming traffic.  Drivers will go out of their way to avoid a tire but not worry so much about getting close to you.  Once you get the flat off the car, put it in place of the spare.  Finish changing your tire.  The last thing you do is store the flat.
