dibarlaw Posted October 2, 2019 Share Posted October 2, 2019 Godspeed on your quest! I have been searching for a decent non-rotted out 1924-1925 large series shell myself for my 1925 Master. The 24-25 shells are identical. My 1925 Master has the shell's bottom rusted out with some poor brazed patches and black paint. I do have a silver painted 1926-1927 Master shell that is very straight without any rust out with only some minor pitting. I was originally offered this as a 1925 shell. If I could not find a shell worth plating I was going to use this one. The 1924 spare radiator and shell that I am planning to redo (if the spirit is willing) has some sections of the inner flange cut off, some good dents and has a small rust hole on the bottom. I must brush up on my welding skills! The 1926-27 shells will fit over the earlier radiator but are more rounded and have rivet holes for the securing of the hood lacing. I have seen quite a few 1924 and 1925 cars with them. As of the 1931 Buick Master Parts Book they were no longer available as replacements. One had to replace a damaged one with a 1926-1927 version. Not bad to have your car look 2-3 years newer at the time.The earlier has slots to thread the lacing through. After 6 years I found a very nice Standard shell that was good enough to re-plate for my 1925 Standard touring car. Probably close to the condition you are looking for on the larger shell. Before After Everett Potter has a website for old Buick parts and sent me some info on a 1924 style shell that he had for sale. He described it as really nice. But it looked pretty rough to me. dibarlaw Posted October 13, 2019 Share Posted October 13, 2019 I tried to buy a better solid one at this year's Hershey with a few dents but no rust out at the bottom. $175. He would not budge on the price. To rich for my blood to then have to go $850 + to get it nickel plated. Then reattach the riveted painted brackets....He still had it on Saturday morning. I had bought a complete radiator and shell with some cut off flange pieces and some dents 3 years ago from the same vendor. The radiator was junk.
