65 Riviera - Alternator...not a Generator....!

Hi All

 

My 65 is an A/C car...

 

Two questions:

 

1)with both fan belts off the generator pulley should the generator fan/pulley turn freely by hand?

2)if the gen has to come out it seems there is no way other than to remove some of the A/C equipment that boxes it in - what's the easiest/best way to do it?

Your car has an alternator, not a generator. 1)  Yes, you should be able to freely turn the alternator if there are no belts attached. 2) i defer to someone who has done it recently.

On my 64, I changed the alternator and don't remember removing any AC parts to replace it.

Although it is a tight fit, you should be able to remove/replace the alternator without removing any of the AC components.

Thanks all...it’s out ...

i removed all bolts and rear mounting bracket of the compressor ...that could then be moved rearwards..and alternator eased up and  out towards front of car...very satisfying it was as well when it finally popped out...
