Wiring of charge indicator (amp meter) on ‘38

Hi All,

an anyone assist in advising where each of the wires go at the back of the charge indicator amp meter on the ‘38.

My wiring harness labels the wires +ve amp gauge, and -ve amp gauge but doesn’t say top terminal or bottom.

There are two sets of wires that go on the discharge side, one from the ignition and one from the rest of the wiring.

The other single wire goes on the input side.

I checked Gary’s 37 pictures but could not see anything clearly that shows the location.

Any help appreciated.

Just guess and hook them up..  If the ammeter shows discharge when the engine is running then things are backwards...

.........so switch them the other way..

This only works if the charging system is working

Ammeters are dumb......if current is  going thru them they will show deflection one way or the other.

If the wires are hooked up backwards on an ammeter....your car will still run just fine

but the meter reading "backwards"    will be distracting

Hi Rodney!

The single wire is at the bottom.  I just took this photo.  The blue tape was my way of marking the new wire harness.  I labelled it "AMP" so I knew it went to the charge indicator lower stud.  (in my mind, "amp meter")

The top wires are "12 RBP"  12 gauge, Red and Black parallel tracers.
