Guest Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I've been going round and round trying to find the best route for redoing the boards on my '38 P6 coupe. I contacted one of the companies that make reproduction boards to see if they would revulcanize my boards. They would not. Only complete boards available through them. Which I really didn't want to do because, as you can see, with the exception of a few small dings my orig. boards are absolutely solid and rust free. Then someone recommended Sherban from The Vintage Runningboard Specialists. I contacted him, checked their reviews, liked what I saw. Sherban replied promptly, asked for pics of my boards so he can work up an exact reproduction and price quote. So far, I like what I'm hearing/seeing. I'll let you know how this turns out.
jpage Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Greg, There are several companies out there in both the U.S. and Canada that will do a good job on redoing the boards, but most will vulcanize the entire board which may or may not be correct for your car. I would recommend Hunley Acuff as he's been doing it for quite a while and has a good reputation but I'm not sure that he's still doing it. Either way, it won't be cheap! i think he has a website. Good hunting!
broker-len Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I have a 36 P2 Plymouth Acuff did my boards 20 years ago when the price was $ 400.00 rubber on original core Just an amazing job better than new
Guest Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Well, I guess I'll try a different route. Sherban got back to me with his quote. $1,700 to $2,000 for mats only. And he said expect to be closer to the $2,000. I must say I'm pretty disappointed with his estimate when you can buy complete reproduction boards with vulcanized mats on eBay for $775, built right here in California. I will check Acuff but I've seen several posts saying he has retired?

John Loney Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 I realize this is an old post but very curious to see what happened with your running boards. Did you get them redone? How did they turn out?
broker-len Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 --HUNLEY ACUFF----I had boards done on a 36 Plymouth in the 80s and they were better that new----I had heard that he was retiring and no one was taking over ---I just googled the name and got a hit-----don't know who is doing the work but they used to be the best in town 1
John Loney Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 I had called and spoke to him a couple of years ago. He asked me what kind of car I had and when I told him, he advised that he wasn’t interested in restoring my boards. I didn’t ask why, however I assumed it was because these boards have a rather intricate pattern that might be more difficult to reproduce...but again, that was just an assumption.
broker-len Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 if he could not do it correctly better that he be honest don't you agree ?
Bruce W Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 I just had the running boards for my 1934 Plymouth re-covered by Ram Reproductions in Cana VA. He was willing to re-vulcanize my original boards. The boards must be clean and straight. (checked with a straight edge). As they explained to me the board must be straight to properly fit in the mold. 33-34 MOPAR RESTORATION SERVICE - RAM REPRODUCTIONS - ANTIQUE CAR AND TRUCK RESTORATION AND PARTS - Ram Reproductions Antique Auto Restoration 1
Bruce W Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Ram Reproductions is able to do some boards other than 33-34 MoPar. Available boards are listed on their website.

I am in MN. Thanks!
Bruce W Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 If I remember right it was around $65 to ship my boards US Mail. I wrapped them flat side to flat side in taped cardboard. I am in southern Wisconsin.
