Pilgrim65
Although My 53 special had a full restoration a few years ago ,my trunk is very basic and would like to upgrade it and would like to see any photos of original treatment , particularly luxury trim , wheel cover etc. I can then give them to trimmers many thanks in anticipation. pilgrim Edited October 28, 2016 by Pilgrim65 Mistake (see edit history)
Pete Phillips
There was no cover for the spare tire in 1953 Buick Specials. There's a cloth-covered trunk mat on the floor and there are gray cardboard liners on the sides of the trunk. As you say, it's pretty basic, but that's how the trunks were from the factory. Pilgrim65
Pete , thanks for information mine dosnt have mat or card board , so will see if can obtain saw trunk lining on eBay about a year ago, before car arrived so will search again. Probably best best to keep her original , but may just fit a carpet and matching cover over , that can easily be removed. Cheers pilgrim
Paul Falabella
Redid the trunk on my 55 a couple years ago. I think, but not certain 53 had same fabric. Check with SMS. If it is the same and in stock, buy it. I waited a year and a half my mine!

Paul Falabella
SMS is a vintage fabric company. Check out their website http://www.smsautofabrics.com They don't always have all the items they show. As I said I waited a year and a half for a new run of trunk fabric.

Pilgrim65
Although the purists wiil probably think my boot treatment trim detracts from specification , it can be easily lifted out. Furthermore the costs involved for me to obtain correct materials from US far exceed the $150 dollars it cost me to achieve what I feel is smart and an improvement. I have also tried to maintain the colour scheme of car interior with the wheel cover and matching jack storage sack. Feel free to criticise. Anyways enjoyed doing it with a friend. cheers pilgrim
Pilgrim65
Thanks Guys , if a few Buick owners like it , that great , job done. cheers pilgrim
Beemon
It's not about us, it's about your enjoyment of the car! Sounds like you had fun doing it and that's what counts. I think it looks really good, better than my stock carpets to say the least.
