prothct
Hi all, I just took delivery of a 1929 Chrysler model 66. I am somewhat confused by what engine is in it as I have read that it could be either the 196 CI or 219 CI depending on what date it left the factory. The block number is 303029-4 and under is "CWC". I am hoping someone can help me.
Rusty_OToole
Is that a casting number or serial number? Serial number might help.
prothct
its the casting number I believe, I will have to remove the regulator to see the Serial number.
Sasha39
I thought that the serial number was stamped on the engine just above the first water jack, the area that is blacked out inbetween the coil and water pump and fan. prothct
Here is a photo of mine, the regulator was installed in front of the serial number. I'll remove the regulator when I get home tonight.
prothct
Ok I got the serial number off the block. Its C1C492 or CIC492. any help would be most appreciated!
keiser31
The engine numbers for the '66' went from C1001 and went to C28055. It says that the engines with numbers above C16440 have "a larger, more powerful engine". prothct
I scraped off the paint, the 2nd "C" is a actually a 0 and the I was a number 1, so its C10492. The VIN is H-099-RW, which is serial number 9840 out of 26184. Thanks to what keiser just posted and what I was told this is an early 29 model 66, I am believing it is the 196 CI model. Sasha39
Now I understand why you had to take of the regulator off, never seen a regulator mounted like that before.
keiser31
Now I understand why you had to take of the regulator off, never seen a regulator mounted like that before. Yes....they are usually mounted on the generator in those years.
hwellens
Here is a photo of mine, the regulator was installed in front of the serial number. I'll remove the regulator when I get home tonight. That car should have a cutout mounted to the generator. A regulator would not fit so it was installed on the block.
