Frieda 1935
How can I use a contemporary (12V) dwell/tach meter with the six volt system on my 1935 Plymouth PJ?
Owen_Dyneto
Don't know the answer but there really is no need to make use of a dwell/tach; just set the points accurately with a feeler gauge and set the idle to a minimum speed yet one where it idles smoothly and liesurely. ply33
It is my understanding that even on a 12v car the ignition system is still basically 6v as a ballast resistor or a coil with an internal resistor is used. In some cases the ballast is bypassed when starting but only while starting. I've used a stock, off the shelf, tach/dwell meter purchased in the last 10 years on my 6v+ ground car with no issues other than remembering that the red clip goes to ground. JACK M
I agree with Ply33, I don't think the dwell meter will care. The tach may be a different story. You may have to use a 12 v source.

Larry Schramm
I just hook up my 12 volt timing light and dwell/ tach meter to a 12 volt battery or the jump box that I have.
