Good morning and Happy Friday!... Hit a blizzard-like snow squall on the way to work today here in Southern Connecticut that pretty much *doubled* my commute time--argh--but beyond that, no other hassles, and we got there safely, thank goodness... Continuing on with our Hershey 2014 flea market tour, here is yet another vehicle that I find a lot more interesting, the more I am digging into it NOW (and wishing that I had studied/taken more pictures of at the time)!... This is a 1945 Dodge WC64 (KD) Ambulance... I only have this front view, and then a photo of the information card that was displayed with it (which was invaluable in finding out more info about it)... It sounds like these are pretty rare vehicles--one reference indicates that only 3,500 units were made from the beginning of 1945 until the end of WWII--also found out that KD stands for "Knock Down," and with more info about what all of that means, reference: http://militaryvehicleweb.com/vehicle/1945-dodge-wc-kd-ambulance-34-ton-3163601/ ... And, what do you know, on this page it appears *this very vehicle* is discussed in more detail, reference: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=243477 ... Happy Friday once again and drive carefully!

One more for Friday from the Hershey 2014 Flea Market... I think this is a '53 Buick Skylark, and sorry, did not think to try to take any pictures of what look to be some papers on the left side of the windshield, to see what the asking price was (if it was indeed for sale)... Love the style and pizzaz of this car! Does this car exude the Unlimited Optimism of the time or what?!... Happy Friday once again, and have a great weekend!

Good morning and Happy Monday... 36F and light rain this morning in Southern Connecticut--I can deal with that for mid-January... From the Hershey 2014 ongoing flea market browse, here's one for those who enjoy a challenge: 1911 Ellmore--a marque of which I've never heard--though there is a wikipedia page for them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elmore_(automobile) ... Have a good day!

Another from the Hershey 2014 flea market browse... Here's a nice Checker Marathon Wagon, that advertised a web site for a company in MA that appears to specialize in buying & selling Checkers: http://www.checkermotorcars.com/ ... It was hard to discern if the Checker was for sale or not--probably not, since there was a lot of "stuff" set up in front of it--so I'll guess it did dual duty as a company advertisement and Hershey parts-hauler... Wikipedia says that Marathons had a very long run--1960 through 1982, ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checker_Marathon ... Happy Tuesday afternoon!

Good morning and Happy Wednesday! From our ongoing Hershey 2015 flea market browse, we saw these "VVR" German driving school training models in the same space with the Checker wagon... Pretty cool!... Here's a somewhat similar one that apparently got sold at an auction within the past few years: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19363/lot/350/ ... Happy Wednesday once again!

EDIT: "VVR" evidently stands for "Verkehrsverlag Remagen," a German company that is evidently (though I cannot read German) still in the driver training business, ref: http://onlineshop.vvr.de/

These look similar to German models used for technical training built in the 1930's that I saw some time ago..

Good afternoon, time for one more Hershey 2014 installment for now, from our ongoing flea market browse... It appears the very next space beyond the Checker & VVR driver training models was a space with a SPECTACULAR collection of vintage automobile radiator cap mascots--WOW! We remembered running into them within the last couple of years, where they showed us the *squirrel* mascot that we LOVED (have to see if I can find a photo), and, what do you know, upon enlarging one of my hastily-snapped photos from this year, it appears they still have it... Have a good afternoon & rest of your day!

Good morning and Happy Friday!... From our ongoing Hershey 2014 Flea Market tour, here's a positively superb 1942 Ford "Super Deluxe" Marmon-Herrington 4x4 Woodie! WOW!!!... Not optimal picture-taking, as it was parked closely between two other vehicles at the time we came across it, but, still, a real treat to see & study this stunningly beautiful Ford!

Happy Sunday!... Still ongoing in our Hershey 2014 flea market browse... Had to stop along the way and admire that awesome Mercer at the Dragone Classic Motorcars' booth... I guess it was going to be auctioned in Westport the following weekend... Wonder where it may have ended up...

Good morning and Happy Monday!... From our ongoing Hershey 2014 browse, we kind of made a quick swing thru some of the "Hyman Ltd." cars that were kind of set up on the grass at the edge of the car corral and the flea market, and ended up looking at this super cool & super-unusual little red 1958 Fiat sports car for a little while--at the expense of paying much of any attention to the super cool & super-unusual (& CT-manufactured!) Kelsey Motorette 3-wheeler that was parked right next to it! For now, here's an overall view showing both cars, and then next installment we'll take a look at that cool Fiat from several angles... Happy Monday once again!

Good morning and Happy Tuesday!... From Hershey 2014, we are still browsing around the Hyman, Ltd. spread that was at the edge of the Car Corral and Flea Market Green Field... I only got one shot of this magnificent and super-sporty 1911 Regal Underslung Twenty-Five, but I noticed that the well-known seller himself appeared in a local news story photo-op from last fall with the same car, reference: http://www.ldnews.com/local/ci_26689474/immense-aaca-antique-car-show-opens-hershey ... Good morning and Happy Wednesday!... From the ongoing Hershey 2014 tour, we are still at the Hyman, Ltd. space, ogling all the beautiful and exclusive cars that were on display/for sale... Here's a car I never saw before, a 1968 "AC Frua," which appears to have sold, based on a notation I found on this page: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C498140 ...

Here's the text of the (apparent) original Hyman, Ltd. ad for the car: "...AC’s 428 is a beautiful, fast, luxurious and exceedingly rare high performance gran turismo. With gorgeous coachwork designed and constructed by Pietro Frua on a strong, rigid tubular frame with fully independent coil spring suspension built by AC Cars and derived from the coil spring Cobra 427, the AC 428 was a serious competitor to Jensen and Aston Martin, with performance comparable with the European exotics from Ferrari and Maserati at a fraction of the cost. The chassis was developed from that used in the legendary Cobra 427, but with bigger, stronger longitudinal tubes and a 6-inch longer wheelbase with four-wheel coil spring and wishbone suspension along with a limited slip differential. Power came from Ford’s FE block 428 cubic inch V-8, similar to that found in the Galaxie and the Shelby Mustang GT 500. It had immense torque — 426 lb-ft in any form — and 345 to 475 horsepower in highly tuned form. The 428’s gran turismo character lent itself to the police package specification C-6 3-speed automatic, and the vast majority are fitted with this transmission. In the end, only 81 AC 428’s were built, of which 50 were sleek, aerodynamic fastback coupes like this right-hand drive 1968 example. Finished in a pleasing medium blue metallic with a black leather interior, it shows 82,000 miles and is a well-maintained restoration that has been driven sparingly. It is equipped with several luxury features like power windows and an AM/FM cassette radio but, like all AC 428s, it has brutally effective performance that is impressive even by modern standards. Autocar described the AC 428’s torque at full throttle as “shattering” and the magazine went on to record a 145 mph top speed and 5.4 second 0-60 time. An elegantly styled luxury tourer with a race-proven chassis and a strong, flexible, reliable engine, this wonderfully presented and showable classic AC 428 is rare, extremely desirable, and intoxicatingly fast. $199,500.00 US..."

Happy Wednesday once again!

Good afternoon and Happy Friday!... Continuing on with our tour of Hershey 2014, and we are still browsing some of the Hyman, Ltd. offerings... This 1961 Volvo P1800 coupe was really beautiful, and has a very fascinating history, as recounted on the info page at their web site: http://hymanltd.com/vehicles/5337-1961-volvo-p1800-coupe/

As I often say, sure wish I had paid more attention to the car at the time! Oh well!!

Have a great afternoon and a great weekend! I'm not too psyched about the forecasts for tomorrow (that dreaded "s word"), but keeping fingers crossed that whatever we get doesn't amount to too much...

What do you know, we survived the Blizzard of 2015 in not too bad shape, here in Southern Connecticut... All shoveled out and ready for the next one... Anyway, getting back to our ongoing Hershey 2014 tour, we are still in the Hyman, Ltd. space, and took a couple of shots of a positively magnificent 1919 Locomobile (Bridgeport, CT manufactured, I believe)... I found some really interesting history about this positively awesome oldie online at an RM Auctions site, reference: http://www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1064410

Happy Tuesday evening!

Good morning and Happy Early Thursday... Continuing our browse thru the Flea Market we ran into our old friend Ron, a.k.a. "sonefish" on the forums, who we later saw on the Saturday car show field with his "Superoo" vintage race car! Ron's a great friend who we've known thru the old VW hobby for many years, and it's always a pleasure seeing him!

One more for now from the Hershey 2014 flea market browse... We always enjoy coming across the "Schwalm's Babbited Bearings - Model A Engine Rebuilding" (Strasburg, PA, ref: www.schwalms.com) booth in the flea market, to ogle that oh-so-beautiful hot rod '29 A Sports Coupe... wow...

Good morning and Happy Tuesday... Around Southern New England yesterday was NOT a great day, weather-wise (we're talking SNOW), and this morning the thermometer is reading a big *eight* degrees F (but at least it's not actually snowing)... Getting back to the ongoing Hershey 2014 flea market browse, here's a Nimbus motorcycle... Never heard of these, but apparently they were a Danish marque, manufactured 1919 thru 1960--wow, that's some history! Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimbus_%28motorcycle%29

Have a good day and stay warm!

Happy Chilly Wednesday! Yeesh, a big 9F in little old Stony Creek, CT this morning... Where's that global warming when we need it? Ha ha!...

From Hershey 2014 for this morning, here's a photo of Diane and our buddy Alex, who we have known for MANY years (30+, I'd estimate) thru the old VW hobby--and the old car hobby in general as well, now that he is a "Confirmed Hershey Regular," and not to mention a fully certified AACA Judge as well! Keep up the great work, Alex! Always great seeing you!

Like with Alex, we've also known our long-time buddy Rich thru the old VW and old car hobby for many, many years, and always love catching up with him at Hershey. It was perhaps not surprising that we saw Rich right after we saw Alex, since I think their flea market spaces are adjoining. Love those guys!

My brother owned that car for a few years, and sold it at Hershey a couple of years ago. It's a one-of-a-kind authentic Regal speedster. I was unaware that Hyman picked it up.
