CheezeMan
So I replaced all 4 headlamps with new ones from Classic Buicks. When I turn on the high-beams, after about 1-2 minutes the lights begin to flicker, including the red light on the instrument cluster. I know that the headlight switch is designed to flicker the lights when there is an overload. So I got that. The old lamps did not do this and worked just fine while in high-beam.The new lamps are halogen type. I wasn't expecting halogens for my order, but maybe that is what they all are now. Would this problem be typical of halogen lamps? Are halogens correct to use?Are they drawing more power than my old ones or is something else goofed up? I believe they are rated at 50w each.thanks,Chuck
RivNut
Chuck, if your old ones are still good, put them back in and see if the situation goes back to normal. That would be a quick way to narrow it down to the new lamps.Ed
68RIVGS
On my '68, the halogen replacement lights worked fine without any problems - maybe check for corroded, bad connections, or a faulty headlight dimmer switch ??
CheezeMan
A few years back I replaced the headlight switch with a re-pop made in Mexico. It worked just fine with the old worn lights, however there must be a higher load with brand new lights.I found a used original switch, and after rebuilding it, it tested perfectly. I left the high-beams on for several minutes without any flickering. Thanks for all feedback to my post.
60FlatTop
I was thinking the same as Randy when I read it. Check the dimmer switch.Bernie
