1922bigsix
I have a 1954 Studebaker Commander 2door hardtop that has been converted to 12v with the exception of the windshield wipers. I have a 12v motor from a 1957 Golden Hawk that will presumably bolt in. My question is whether I need to change the switch. It is wired similarly in the wiring diagram for each car. Any help will be appreciated. Tom
Friartuck
Tom, The original switch that operated the wiper motor on 6 volts should have no problem switching a 12 volt motor.
joe_padavano
Higher voltage actually reduces current requirements for a given circuit. As noted, six volt switches and wiring are more than adequate for 12 volt operation.
junkyardjeff
My 55 Ford and 37 Chevy p/u are using the original switches.
