NASA Printing Rocket parts

I would expect this process to work just fine. Jay Leno has been doing this to create parts for his cars for several years now using a similar system that is well beyond the finances of most of us. As prices continue to fall (and they are as we speak) I believe it will become much more common place. Software that is easy to use will be the key here and it will be a huge market. As people gain the ability to create an infinite variety of parts from their own homes, this will have a greater impact on our society than you might think at first glance, both good and not-so-good.

As a side note printing human organs is not science fiction and will become a reality very soon as well.

A current news report on 3D printing or "Additive manufacturing". Its coming very soon (read now) and it will have a significant impact on our lives across the board; think an early version of the Star Trek replicator. One should be able to buy a 3D printer for under $1K soon and simply download a digital file (pattern for a given part) off the internet just like you would any other file. Send the file to your printer and make that rare part at home with very little effort:
