Chrysler Won't Start-sometimes?

I recently bought a 64 Newport with 38K miles. I runs beautifully, but it had a couple times where it wouldn't turn over. The battery is fully charged and everything would turn on when you turn the key, but no starting. If you leave it alone, eventually it would turn over.

Where should I start?

Do you hear a click when you turn the key even? Might want to check/clean and tighten your battery posts and your ground. Also check the main wire feeding the starter as it might be loose or very corroded. Matt

There is no click. Everything turns on but the starter does nothing. You're right, it could be a connection to the starter motor. I also thought about the neutral switch on the push button trans.

Thing is, if you let it sit for a while it will start. Of course I havn't been able to reproduce this to a repair guy. Just wondering if this sound familier to anyone.

Check the coil. Sometimes a car will run great for a while and then the coil will overheat and short out.

The neutral safety switch may be the fault so try taking it out of park and pushing the "N" .

It could also be the starter solenoid .

Good suggestion about the neutral safety switch. Could also be a bad starter relay. I would first check all the electrical connections from the battery to the relay to the starter, clean them and be sure they are tight, the wires not frayed or broken. This is something that does not take long and costs practically nothing.
