Paul Falabella
How tight should the nuts on the rear shock links be?I got the nuts pretty tight on the tapered threads and there seems a ways to go into the nut. More force needed or is this correct? Thanks, Paul
55 SURVIVOR
I don't know the foot lbs,but reasonably tight, kind of as tight as a generator fan bolt (hand tight) it has a taper that pulls into a taper,I wouldn't go Hulk Hogan on it.
wex65
According to the service manual...Nut Shock Absorber Link Rod 25-30 ft/lbsPal Nut Shock Absorber Link Rod 2-4 ft/lbsHope this is what you are after...Paul
Paul Falabella
I would have figured the tapered threads to at least be flush with the bolt. As it is now the tapered thread is 1/8"-1/4" recessed in the bolt.Would have figured a little to stick out the nut face. Just doesn't look right. Pretty sure I put more than 30 ft/lbs. on em', though I didn't use a torque wrench.
wex65
PaulI could be wrong, it is early!, but I think the figures I posted might actually be for the front shocks where the link bar attaches...

Just get it reasonably tight and use a thread locker since the original (or replacement) locknut will be ineffective. Check for looseness after driving, since apparently the taper is too short and might be the wrong shape and may loosen in service.Willie
