jackofalltrades70
I would be interested in finding casting dies that would have made club license plate holders, ashtrays, beltbuckles or anything promotional. If any of the clubs or individuals have anything interesting, or that you might want cast and have a mold or die, let me know. Thanks Matt<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
Dandy Dave
A Casting Die?.... You do mean a Stamping Die. Yes? Stamping dies are for stamping sheet metal in a large press. License plates, sheet metal parts. Casting on the other hand is done from a sand mold and require a patern usually made of wood, or some other easy to shape material. Also see lost wax method. It takes a positive, to make a negative, to then get a positive in a desired material. In the plastics industy, they are called an "injection mold." and are made from tool steel. Dandy Dave! jackofalltrades70
Dave,I realize that. I work in the aluminum and zinc die casting industry and was wondering if anyone might have some old tools that we could run off some parts for. Maybe a chapter has a mold for an item they sell. Dandy Dave!Yes, casting tooling in the die cast industry can be named a 'die'. Tool and die makers work on and build die cast dies.
Rusty_OToole
You should be a very popular fellow if this gets around. There must be a million guys who could use a carburetor, or other zinc or aluminum casting. Making the dies is the tricky bit. Wonder if the latest 3D printing would be any good for making dies. Guest samronald
Old casting dies are still followed in automotive industry. The dies are made of Metal Stamping process and the process involves punching, coining, bending and flanging operations.
