Nailhead Neoprene FRONT Crank Seal?

Jolly_John

Recommended Posts

Hi, Gang. I want to replace the rope FRONT crankshaft seal in my 1964 425 with the neoprene one that will drop in the timing cover (I know such a seal exists!).

I'm having a problem sourcing this modern seal locally (no application listing at the auto parts stores). Anyone have the Fel-Pro seal number (or whatever)....OR the name of a vendor you guys have been getting these neoprene front seals from? Thanks for the help. John in Wisconsin

Here are the numbers I have collected over the years:

Federal Mogul #474272 or CR19786 neoprene; National #450446 or 470543; skf 0S144

I have not used these, so I cannot guarantee anything.

Please let us know what you find out.

Do any of you guys have a part # for the neoprene Rear Main Seal for a 65 Buick 425 . I understand a buick v-6 seal works fine instead of the rope seal. What year V-6 and displacement?

Thanks a Bunch

As an ROA member, you have access to the Tech Tips link on the ROA's website. There's information in that link about both the front and rear seals. The rear seal is NOT from a V6, but rather from a BBB (if I remeber correctly;) only the front seal is from the V6.
