Guest shadetree77 Posted September 20, 2011 Share Posted September 20, 2011 Has anyone ever repaired a push rod with solder? I was recently cleaning out the oiling system of my 52 Special and discovered my push rods have holes in them along the side seam. They look like a sprinkler when high pressure water is shot through them. I'm pretty sure they are not supposed to do that. It was suggested to me by a fellow forum member that push rods can be soldered along the seam to seal the leaks. Has anyone ever heard of this or maybe even attempted it? I've run into some difficulties in obtaining replacements (see thread entitled "http://forums.aaca.org/f115/how-many-have-had-bad-experience-312055.html") and I'm leaning towards attempting this repair. Guest shadetree77 Posted September 21, 2011 Share Posted September 21, 2011 They are 10 3/8" from tip to absolute tip and they are the hydraulic kind with the oil channel drilled through the center. I haven't fully decided what I'm going to do yet. I don't know if I'm going to try to replace and/or fix up the old ones or just order all new. I'm waiting on CARS to respond to my recent return of the wrong parts they sent me and I'll get back to you then. I appreciate the offer and I might take you up on it if I decide to go that route. By the way, I have no idea how many I might need. After I got 4 in a row that leaked like a sieve I abandoned my cleaning efforts! I'll be in touch. Thanks Pete.
