Guest sintid58
Just brought home another project. I have been thinking for years about building a hot rod pickup to possibly haul around my cars with. More for fun than for need of hauling them and I wanted to get an early 60's GMC with short box and step side box. Found one and picked it up yesterday after 1050 miles from 4 am until 11 pm last night we arrived home and unloaded it. Right now it has a Chevy 454 and that will be changed to some kind of Buick engine before it is done. At this time it will be driven the way it is for a few years, need to finish the 55 and get some work done on the 58 but it was exactly what I have been hoping find and will be a fun cruiser for now. buick5563
That's pretty sweet Sid. I'd change the steering wheel before the engine swap.

Guest sintid58
Yeah its pretty hard to steer with that little steering wheel when your driving slow but once you get up to 5 mph or so its pretty easy. Its geared pretty low too and with that 454 about 65 is all I am comfortable with.
CBloomberg
When you get the Buick power in it, you might try to replace the GMC logos on front & back with Buick name and Trishield. It could be a design challenge but may turn out to be a one of a kinf that is sharp.Chuck
MrEarl
Coool man. Will really be cool with a nailhead in it. Is that a cover over the back? Congrats.
Guest sintid58
Yes Lamar it has a really nice fiberglass cover on the box. We drove in some very hard rain on the way home with it and it was dry as a bone inside.
Guest Dans 77 Limited
Nice truck Sid. However unlike the other guys I think the wheel looks great in there, Im not sure Id change a thing. The wheel just looks like the kind of wheel you would find in a hotrod truck. Granted a nailhead would be nice, but its kind of like seeing a 32 Ford with a Hemi or a chevy engine it ....... it works but it just doesnt seem kosher. Still its a beautiful truck and most importantly its YOUR beautiful truck so if you want a nailhead in it ..... it shall have a nailhead in it. And the best part is ... it will still be a beautiful truckDan
Guest sintid58
Well I have been looking on Craigslist and Nailheads seem harder to find than 455's. There is a guy in Sioux Falls that will supposedly give me a 455 if I come and get it. In the end what ever I get I want to rebuild it and it won't be stock so as long as the block and heads are usable that is all that will matter. Comes with a warranty too. It would be for your "Hot Rod"...

Guest sintid58
Here are a couple pictures of the fiberglass cover, along with a couple pictures of my Buick garage and driveway. Seems I have a slight preference for Buicks. Might be called obsession by some.
