Cast iron welding

From Long Island N Y, need circa 1912 engine block cracks welded. Who within a couple hundred miles can weld without heating in oven? Yes it can be done. Need person with experience as block is irreplaceable.

I knew of a shop in Long Island City called Cool Weld, but thought they did the oven method.

I have welded cast iron using special welding rods from Muggyweld. Their link and my article is posted at:

A regular competant welder should be able to do this using Muggy's cast iron welding rods. Remember to use a technique called back stiching. Practicing on some old marine cast iron manifolds may be in order.

If the block is irreplaceable do not attemp this yourself unless you are an expert welder experianced in cast iron repair. If the crack is a non sturctural water jacket type crack, brazing may be a better choice............Bob

Have you considered metal stiching ? If you "google " it there is information that might help you decide if is the correct approach for your needs.
