54 chrysler dash panel

I have a 54 new yorker station wagon, on the lower right hand side of the dash panel there is an empty hole..The switch is in the far right hole..What pictures I can find of the dash, shows the switch was in the left hole..Could someone tell me what goes in the empty hole. and does the switch go in the right or left hole..Thanks Don:confused:

From what I remember (I had a '54 New Yorker Deluxe), the igntion is on the left and a cigarette lighter is on the right.

All New Yorkers had 8.00X15 tires except the long wheelbase or limo models which got 8.20X15. There is no separate call out for the station wagon, in the reference I looked at. So I guess your car came with the 8.00X15s.

its for a cigarette lighter , you have to remember it was not frowned upon for us to have a ciggy back then , ( i do have to mention i stopped smoking about 6 years ago , after 50 yrs , i dont feel any better, or worse, but do admit it has probably prolonged my life .

Cigarette lighter goes in the right hole, ignition in the left. That is right from my 54 NY deluxe. Shows this in the owners manual too.
