Grand National award-radiator badge

I received a Grand National award (junior) last fall. Is there supposed to be a radiator badge to go with that or do you receive the rad badge when you get your Grand National senior award? I suspect I should be showing a badge the next time I have the car at a Grand National meet, when I go for the senior. Should I be contacting someone at headquarters? Thanks!

Hi, Peter.

The Grand National awards do not have a "Junior" category. They are titled 1st Place GN, 2nd Place GN, or, 3rd Place GN.

Only the 1st Place GN receives a grill badge. If your trophy states 1st Place then you are entitled to the grill badge. Others will probably chime in here.

Check the award you received in the meantime and tell us what is on it (1st, 2nd, or, 3rd).

Peter, If you get the chance at Hershey, if you haven't done this already, take a break and head for the Music Box Theater and take in the judging school which is free. For your time you will also receive a copy of the 2010 Judging Guidelines book for free. The book is normally $5 so it is well worth your time. And you can rest your feet awhile too.

Just to clarify based on another discussion thread I just read, , if there is an "Annual Grand National repeat Senior award" doesn't that mean that at the Grand National level, if you receive a 1st place, the first time you show, then that is considered a Grand National Junior? Then the 2nd time you show at a GN, if you get a 1st place, you then receive a Grand National Senior award? If you show for the third time at a Grand National and receive a 1st place you would then get a Grand National repeat Senior award. Am I correct? Super thanks~Peter

Interesting to note that the language in the Guidelines booklet on page 91 of the 2010 version, preceding the passages quoted by Susan, appears to now be incorrect. Acording to that paragraph a vehicle is elegible to attend an AGNM one time only - the year following the year that it was awarded the national meet Senior Award. The changes in 1992 that open the AGNM for multiple levels: Senior, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and multiple Repeat Senior awards offer the "opportunity" for unending attendance at AGNM events.

2. The ANNUAL GRAND NATIONAL

CAR AWARD

SYSTEM

have been integrated

a. The ANNUAL GRAND NATIONAL

MEET (A.G.N.M.) shall be held no

more than once a year generally in

July or August.

b. Annual Grand National Meets are

hosted in Western and Central

Divisions in odd numbered years

and the East and Southeast in

even numbered years.

c. The A.G.N.M. is to be limited

to sponsorship by a Region(s) or

Chapter(s) that has previously

sponsored

a National Spring, Fall,

or Winter

Meet.

d. Requests for an A.G.N.M. must be made

a minimum of two years in advance

of the proposed

A.G.N.M. date.

e. If there is no sponsoring Region

available

for any given year, the

A.G.N.M. will not be held.

f. The A.G.N.M. is to be overseen by

an A.G.N.M. DIRECTOR, who shall

be a National Director, appointed

by the National President.

3. ELIGIBLE VEHICLES

a. All AACA Senior award winning

vehicles,

but limited to those who

obtained

the Senior award or Senior

Tab the prior year or earlier. No current

year Senior award winners

are

eligible. (All Senior award winners,

upon winning their Senior award,

shall automatically graduate

from

the Senior category and be eligible

to compete in an A.G.N.M.)

b. All AACA Classes. (Except HPOF,

DPC and SGCV)

c. An A.G.N.M. First Prize can only be

won once with any one vehicle.

d. An A.G.N.M. SENIOR award can

be won repeatedly and remains

eligible

for the Preservation award

4. All registered Senior Tab vehicles

will be judged.

5. JUDGES

a. CHIEF JUDGE – Shall be a Senior

Master judge and be approved by

the Vice President-Class Judging.

b. TEAM CAPTAIN – Shall be at least

a Master judge.

c. JUDGING TEAM – Shall be composed,

when possible, of at least

four (4) Master judges or above,

plus the team captain.

d. APPRENTICE – There shall be no

apprentice judges at an A.G.N.M.

e. All Grand National Meet judges will

have field judged at least once in

the past 2 years, attended a judging

school once in the past year

and have at least 10 credits prior to

AGNM.

6. TROPHIES

a. The A.G.N.M. trophies

will be designated

by the

National Board of Directors.

7. BADGE: A suitable year-dated

badge signifying

that the vehicle is a

GRAND NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE

WINNER,

similar to the current Junior

National

First Prize winner badge

will be displayed on the vehicle

along

with the Junior National First Prize

winner badge and the Senior

Tab.

8. ATTENDANCE PLAQUE: These

should be similar to the National

Spring, Fall and Winter Meet plaques,

of good quality

etched, enamel

filled, envelope size

2-1/2"x3-1/2" maximum.

9. Vehicles on the judging field may not

display “FOR SALE” signs.

10. FEES

a. A registration fee will be charged for

each vehicle entered in an A.G.N.M.,

a portion of which is forwarded to

AACA Headquarters

and the remainder

to remain with the host Region

for expenses.

The fee is set by the

National

Board of Directors. Refer

to the AACA A.G.N.M. guidelines

for

the current set fee.

b. A registration fee for each judge

attending the judges breakfast will

be collected

and forwarded to AACA

I know I am late in getting on, but last year in Topeka, they handed our the 1st AGNM badge and the trophy right at the show field. As a matter of fact, after the show ended, we put our badge on and had it on the truck for the fall meet that took place the next morning. He should've gotten his badge at the show field. To my recollection, no one left until after the awards were handed out.

As a matter of fact just before the awards were presented, then president Mike Jones had a change in bi-laws that was voted upon by the members that were there (by-law change involving when National Directors can take office).
