MochetVelo
I'm wondering how I should mount the acetylene tank on my '21 Peugeot. Below is the only clear image of the car I have showing the tank. It looks rather like a fire extinguisher mounting or a big hose clamp. Brass straps would look good. Any suggestions?Phil
Larry Schramm
Cool looking car. Can you share a pix of yours. As for the mounting on the picture, it almost looks like oversize muffler clamps.
MochetVelo
Yes, they do resemble muffler clamps, now that you mention it. My tank is 4" diameter.Phil
Guest JR Cars
They are in most cases cast pieces, usually a lower cradle bolted to the running board. An upper cradle is hinged to the lower, then tightened around the tank. Think of a handcuff design. I have seen brass straps as well, but they too are usually fastened to a cast base. Larry Schramm
If the tank is about 4 inches in diameter, I would go to a parts store that sells big truck parts and look for a 4 inch muffler clamp. Have it brass plated and you are done?
Layden B
Early tank mounts are usually cast but they quickly learned to make them from strap iron. This is the back page of the 1912 Prest-O-Lite catalog. The #30 is for a 13 1/4" long by 4" diameter tank that they called an "auxiliary tank". It was usually seen on motorcycles. MochetVelo
Thanks, Layden. The catalog page is useful.(To Bob... A Bridgeport is useful; I'm just biding my time until I call you to make me something with it!)Phil
Bhigdog
I don't know how I ever managed without one. I use it at least twice a week for something or other. Well OK, sometimes I do look for things to use it for.....................Bob
