DaveW
This is my first time deaing with split rims. What is the best way to get them back on once I have my new tires seated on the wheel? Any specific way to bend them? Thanks,Dave
nearchoclatetown
I used regular tire irons to mount mine.
imported_Big Mark
Use a spoon tire iron to pry gently outward, while you step on the split ring into place. start at one end (the end without the notch) it works best when you have two people once the ring is seated ... be very carefull inflating the tire stand away from the tire and fill it slowly
keiser31
I always tap inward around the edge of the lock ring as I GENTLY inflate the tire so that it locks into the groove of the rim. It's always best to lay a big fat 2x6 across the top while inflating so that the lock ring is held away from your bean.
Guest elmo39
I was always taught to first check the ring is in place properly , connect the air hose (in those days ,hand pump), turn the wheel over (ie)ring facing the ground then carefully inflate ,if something did go wrong at least your head stayed intact. jan arnett (2)
I use a rim spreader which allows you to expand the rim and lock in the end. Put a little air in the tube so you do not pinch the tube. Mount it on you wheel and then inflate.Jan
DaveW
Thanks for the input. I will try some new techniques this weekend and let you know how I make out.Dave
DaveW
Finally I had success this weekend. I got all the tires mounted, inflated, and installed safely. After seating the non-notched end of the rim, prying about 180 degrees out from the start point did the trick. Then I just followed the rest of the rim around until the whole thing clicked in. Stepping on the rim with my foot seemed to help a lot as I went around too. Thanks again,Dave
imported_Big Mark
That's an old Army trick Dave, I can't tell you how many Duce and a half tires I mounted the same way. I hope the tires serve you well. Now you can move the car alot more easy. Good Luck, Mark
