if you like driving a posh dump truck
Ed is correct. This car was my first restoration, won the AACA presidents cup and drove like a dump truck without power steering. The car had very bad vibes. I purchased it from Ron Van Geldren after he was fired and his wife filed for divorce the same week. He had imported it from Argentina. (Don't ask me why??) It had bullet holes all aver the drivers door and the wood was riddled with termite damage. A couple of years after I had finished showing it I divorced my wife and took it to the Leake sale where the buyer walked into the settlement area with a Wheaties box and paid the $110K with 100 dollar bills. He died of a heart attack two weeks later and I lost track of the car. Overall it was a great day for me!!

A few years ago a friend in College Station purchased a Model A in Anchorage. He and his wife flew up and drove it to Texas. Took a while.

It’s not luck to land the big score .......it’s lots of god dammed work.
Well Said! You can apply that to everything worthwhile in life from the stock market to Marriage.

Do you think it sways when it meets a semi?

Condition, Condition, Condition and then rarity. Using a porcelain sign for target practice detracts from the value somewhat. Still an interesting Wall Hanger and signs in this condition are being actively purchased every day and for more than your offer.

And no one knows
which cars may be stupendously popular, and which one
As an example there is a 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo on BaT right now at $136K with seven days to go in the auction. Unless you can predict the future buy what YOU like and forget the investment idea. It is a hobby for 99% of us and hobby's usually cost money. A good friend loves to gamble and goes to Las Vegas two or three times a year. His average loses is 20K per trip and he can afford it.

For instance - Even if I know its more awesome and more valuable, I do not care, I ONLY want that stuff that rings that nostalgia bell for me
Great philosophy. I have been collecting for 45 years and never purchased a item because it was a good deal. If something doesn't speak to me I don't buy it. If the value goes to zero you want to be able to look at it every day and still be glad you purchased it. Some evenings I sit out in my display room with a single malt and listen to music. It doesn't get much better.

Terry is certainly more experienced than I am but I would not buy any of these without personally inspecting them. Two of the three look REPO to me for sure. With your admitted lack of experience I would not buy anything from a eBay seller unless you or a friend know them personally from previous experiences. You live in a area with a ton of antique car activity. Join a club like the AACA or VMCCA in your area and you will find members who actively collect advertising and are happy to help. Google automotive or advertising flea Markets or shows in your area and start attending. Don't feel bad if you occasionally end up with a fake. We all have mistakes in our collections. I have a couple hanging on my walls because they look great. If anyone asks I reply, yes it's a repo but I like it. Get on the mailing list for Morford and Past Time Pleasures. These are on line auctions and provide a digital catalog 3 to 4 times a year that you will find educating. No REPO's allowed. Also join the "Old Gas forum" You can actually submit a photo and members will comment much like this forum. Great hobby and if you are serious your collection will appreciate much faster that the S&P 500. And lastly scroll down to the forum headed by Memoribilia ---- for a real education. Sorry for my long winded reply

My best criticized find was at a Hershey dealer specializing in flathead Ford parts in the 80's He had a GM box with two water pumps still wrapped in their original packing paper. When I asked him what they were for he replied that he didn't have the slightest idea and was tired of carrying them around. They looked interesting to me and I purchased them for $10. My friends comment was "you just purchased a couple of boat anchor's" They were NOS 38-40 V16 Cadillac Rt and Left water pumps.

Any evidence that the OP has returned or is engaged in any way???? If you are following this conversation, say something, otherwise we are just talking to ourselves.

Over the course of my lifetime I have attended the liquidation of many "Hoarder" estates and came away with many treasures. I am forever thankful to these individuals for saving everything

Great rationalization Dave. I plan to use it in the future myself. Thanks

On my 29 Cadillac that won the Presidents cup my wife used to do the wheels. After the Des Moines Grand National she informed me that she was never touching a wheel again. As you know that was a long time ago and she kept her word!!

Am I the only one who finds it odd that the OP is asking for our advice without disclosing what the car is. That can make a world of difference. We now learn the car has several spots of crazing which would lead me to favor repainting especially if I didn't like the color Just my TCW which is actually the value my opinion on a car I don't own..
