Thank you John for posting these reminders of times past.
I'll bet that this gem has seen some memorable events, and maybe even saved lives in the process. I've been hanging around Fire Trucks since before my 5th birthday, and still have them in my blood.

One more thought,
You may want to consider replacing the standard bulbs in your brake/turn/tail lights with modern LED bulbs which are available in both 6-Volt and 12-volt versions - just be sure of your choice of Negative or Positive grounding for your vehicle.
The major advantages are that they work much faster so they are much brighter, and are "INSTANT-ON - INSTANT-OFF", giving a much faster notice to the driver behind you of your intention to stop, or to turn. They also draw much less current than a conventional incandescent bulb.
A possible concern is that your flasher unit may not get enough current draw to flash properly, and as a result may trigger only a brief momentary flash. The way around this is to either replace the flasher with one designed as a mechanical, rather than heat-sensitive unit - or to add a resistor in the circuit to create additional current draw.
I have made this upgrade to many of my "drivers", and am happy with the result.

Lloyd Young in Canal-Winchester, Ohio can adapt an overdrive (30% reduction) to the differential, and you can have the driveshaft shortened to compensate.
That way, when you are doing 60 mph, your engine thinks the car is doing only 42 mph.

My 1954 Cadillac uses the same system as your Olds.
The system originally called for Type-"A" transmission fluid. This was replaced by a sequence of upgrades, now using Dexron/Mercon or any of its Roman Numeral subsequent iterations

The house was built late 40's mid 50's and had asbestos siding.....the stuff last for years and years! My buddy's house in Hermosa Beach still has it!"
Yup !! Memories - my parents 2nd home in Linden, NJ had asbestos shingles on all four sides, and when we added onto the house, we cut and used a grinder on these. I've also inhaled more than my share of brake dust over the years
