  1. Nicely done, Barry.

We had helped to clean up a blue Ruxton which used to live in LaPlace, Louisiana before a family member of the deceased Henry Martin had it moved to California in the late 1980s or mid-1990s.

Amazing cars, and you did a super video on this great car.

  2. I do not know, but do not believe J. C. Whitney was a bonafide individual having a connection to the Warshawsky enterprises.

My understanding was that "J. C. Whitney" was an "Americanized" name, similar to a stage-name. Like many others, it was chosen to not sound foreign, or not to sound too "Jewish" since there was, and continues to be significant anti-semitism.

  3. Bob, no need for a Trouble Truck - your car i9s likely in great condition to drive, and with all of the experienced driver/mechanics registered, we can tear anything apart in minutes -- lots of tools and spare parts in the trunks -- seasoned (older?) technicians -- and a good "Push-Rope" can get us out of almost anything. Nobody gets left behind.......

  4. Glidden Tours are always a good time to catch up with long-time friends, and add more to our circle.

Our cars are just the VEHICLE for bringing friends together.

See y'all at Hershey -- and then there's the Founders Tour in New Jersey

  5. Soddy,

Glad you joined our FORUM, and please listen to Matt's advice.

I expect to be driving through your hometown in the next several days on our way home from Montana. If you will click on my name at left upper, email me your contact info and I'll send you mine as well. maybe we can get together before your travels.

    Marty

  6. Nice shots - thanks -- and I was in Montana at Big Sky most of last week until this morning - got to seel Tom Gerrard's collection,n Montana most of last week

and the AACA Meet was a pleasure to attend and judge

  7. My 1934 Buick 34-57 is a SERIOUS HIGHWAY CRUISER and a fantastic TOUR/DRIVER.

It came from the factory with vacuum-assisted power brakes, and steering is light and precise. It cruises easily at 60 - 65 mph and more since Lloyd Young prepared a new rear-end (we still have a correct original) with a 30% Borg-Warner Overdrive. When ndoing 60, the engine thinks we are doing 42 mph, and the brakes are more than up to the job

After 12 years of touring, it was restored as a driver, but has been awarded AACA Grand National Senior status.

Now I'm again giving serious thought to selling the '34 due to my age, and having more cars than I can justify maintaining.

Of course my price will likely be unrealistically high due to the quality of the car, but IT NEEDS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in order to be enjoyed. ...and will likely be lower than these auction specials which frequently have hidden surprises.

  8. Paul,

Did your new tire have paper tags inside of the tire?

These tags will chafe against the tube, and will cause the tube to fail in very short order.

A few years ago I had three new tires with tubes cause the new tubes to fail from internal abrasion within 100 miles.

  9. WQOW !!

What a great job this Tour Committee has done !!

Kudos to all the members of the Granite region, and especially to Shirley & Larry Cossar, and to Pat & Jack Armstrong.

The routes were a delight, the weather was perfect except for the free carwash on Thursday, and we had the top down on our 1941 Cadillac most of the time.

We drove the '41 Caddy from Windber/Johnstown, PA through Pennsylvania and New Jersey - right through the Lincoln Tunnel and across Mid-Town Manhattan on 42nd Street and got thousands of "Thumbs-Up". Then through the Queens-Mid_town tunnel to near the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center to visit our family cemeteries, and then via the Bronx , Connecticut, and Massachussetts to start the tour in Portsmouth, NH.

Heading back was a nice, but wet, drive back to drop the big Caddy in Windber - no problems with the car the entire trip except for a quick replacement of a starter button (made in Mexico?) which took me less than 5 minutes

Thank you Barry Eash for the preparation of our Caddy

We look forward to driving it on the upcoming AACA Founders Tour in October

  10. The paper tag which becomes vulcanized inside the tire causes abrasion against the tube which squirms inside the tire, and the tube now has a new rub-spot from which the air can exit -

Ask me about three (3) FLATS ON NEW TIRES AND TUBES WITHIN 120 MILES.

Re-installed the tires without tubes and never had another problem !!

  11. We met up with Paul & Inge Dobbin and family from Germany at the motel in Troutville, Virginia Wednesday night/ Thursday morning, and then Dale & I continued on to central Pennsylvania to swap cars.

We drove the 1941 Cadillac convertible from the Johnstown area, through Mid-Town Manhattan (caused a sensation at Broadway & 42nd Street) and via the Queens-MidTown Tunnel to the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center on Long Island, visited family cemeteries, and continued on through Connecticut and Massachussets to Portsmouth, NH, arriving at the motel on Friday evening.

Love driving the yellow Caddy - and most folks who we met along the way also appreciated seeing it.

Had a great LOBSTAAH DINNAAH in Portsmouth on Friday at the Bratskeller, and ate tonight at a 1950s Diner

Driving top-down this afternoon in downtown Portsmouth - and crossed the bridge into Kittery, Maine for a very scenic drive through the area.

Cumberland Farms convenience store on Highway 1 Bypass has regular for $3.22/gallon - but there seems not to be any N0-Ethanol.

BJ's near the Host Hotel at Durgin and Woodbury is $3.33/gal.

  12. Shortly after purchase several years ago, we created a fuel return line of the 1937 Buick 80C Roadmaster Phaeton. We placed a modern fuel filter in line just before the carburetor , and routed the return line to a nipple soldered into the fuel filler neck.

This really helps, especially when touring in areas where you can only get Corn Gas.

We probably should do the same for the 1941 Cadillac which is even more prone to vapor lock as a result of the location of the carburetor.

Both cars have an added electric fuel pump.

  13. A defective wheel bearing - Rear Axle Bearing can cause these symptoms. After driving our '54 Caddy about 30 miles a couple of years ago in Canada, the hub got so hot that the brake fluid boiled and we lost braking action until it cooled. Ultimately it turned out to be the left rear axle bearing which was just barely making a sound - detectable only when the car was on a lift and running in gear with the tire spinning.

  14. Helfen offered: "A bit off topic, I watched the original movie Gidget (1959) and after this party Gidget takes Kahuna to this beach house in the Malibu Colony. The house was built late 40's mid 50's and had asbestos siding.....the stuff last for years and years! My buddy's house in Hermosa Beach still has it!"

Yup !! Memories - my parents 2nd home in Linden, NJ had asbestos shingles on all four sides, and when we added onto the house, we cut and used a grinder on these. I've also inhaled more than my share of brake dust over the years

Howard, wish you could keep the equipment - no telling when I might need your expertise - looing forward to touring with y'all again - Sentimental? Founders?
