  1. Lloyd Young IS still doing Overdrive Units.

He is in Canal-Winchester, Ohio, as suburb of Columbus.

I visited briefly with him a few weeks ago during the Lebanon, TN Dual Meet. He was set up in a Flea Market space, and can be reached at:

    (614) 837-7832

  2. I also use the Trailer-Aid Ramp, and mine has an extra thick rubber block to raise the wheel an additional amount.

Don't forget to loosen the lug nuts just a bit before rolling the trailer onto the ramp, and then tightening again when finished and the new tire is back on the ground.

This device is also handy for adjusting the brakes on your trailer by having a wheel hanging free - and 2 ramps, or 2 wood wedges works just as well so you can do one axle at a time.

  3. Our 1914 Buick was shown at the June, 2014 Lebanon, TN Divisional Meet, and was also driven the entire AACA/HCCA Reliability Tour in Lancaster, PA the following week.

We are delighted to have this "Fun-Driver" recognized with CENTURY CLUB membership, and appreciate the efforts of AACA to encourage the display and driving of these vehicles.

  4. Matt, West, and Bob have been succinct in their repeated explanation.

Our HPOF evaluation methodology has been detailed beyond all but intentional misinterpretation.

They have remained civil despite obvious intent by the poster to goad them otherwise, (and it would seem repeatedly on multiple issues, despite his attempt to hide behind his own comments).

I would have to agree that a reasonable course of action would be for the obviously unhappy individual to JOIN AACA, ATTEND A MEET, ATTEND JUDGING SCHOOL, PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS, and then learn to appreciate what actually does go on, rather than belly-aching about how he wants things to be.

  5. helfen,

It appears that you have, at least twice, answered your own misdirected comment in your quote:

    A vehicle

may be entirely “Original” or it may

    have certain original features such

    as paint, chassis, upholstery, engine

    compartment, etc. that are essentially

as delivered. These vehicles will not be

point judged. A vehicle being evaluated

for the first time, if certified, will receive

an HPOF board, HPOF chip, and

    HPOF badge.

It appears that others have also responded to you more than adequately.

For anyone to address the VP-Class Judging in a derogatory way is severely misinformed at best, and intentionally disrespectful or worse - and entirely uncalled for.

The Mercury in question has areas which are entirely authentic and original. According to the guidelines set forth for HPOF, the number of areas does meet "OUR" criteria.

I know that you have provided detailed information on this FORUM in the past. I don't know if you are a member of AACA, or if you actually support the hobby in any other specific way, or if you occasionally just enjoy "Poking a Hornet's Nest".

As others have suggested, we encourage you to be a contributing member, to attend our Meets, to attend a Judging School, and to actually be supportive in a direct, personal, and visible manner, as so many of our volunteers have continued to do for so many years. Yes, they do so, giving their time and doing so at their own expense, frequently as couples and families!

  6. With all respect to Bernie's comments, I think that Dwight is on target.

Many sellers "ask" more than they ultimately plan to "accept", knowing that most buyers want to feel that they have benefitted from dealing - just look at any episode of "American Pickers" of "Pawn Stars".

It looks like a decent car and a worthwhile project which could be a fun "driver"

Good luck, and let us know the results.

  7. You can buy the 6-Volt Optima Battery on Amazon.com

That way it is absolutely fresh, not sitting on a shelf for 2 years, and it runs about $112.59 with no tax and free shipping. follow this link:

    http://www.amazon.com/Optima-Batteries-8010-044-FFP-Starting-Battery/dp/B00E16LTTK/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1403845739&sr=1-1&keywords=optima+6+volt+battery

I have used these in many of my cars, and sometimes will strap a pair in parallel for incredible cranking amps

Be sure to replace your old cables (especially if they are the cheap 12-volt type) with 00 or 000 cable and soldered terminals for best performance

  8. I'll be at the Judges Team Captain School on Friday from 1:00 - 2:30,

and at the Membership Roundtable from 2:30 - 3:00 - this is in the Lincoln Room

There is a presentation at 3:00 in the Lighthouse Room on Historic Highways and Early Transcontinental Travel

and then at 5:30 the Picnic/Social at Pioneers Park

    6:30 - 9:00 Cruise Night at Culvers Restaurant, 4940 N 27t St

  9. I took my newly buffed-out Packard to a local cars and coffee show this morning. I parked next to a real nice 39 Buick.

    Don,

    The Packard looks great....

don'cha' just have a great time at these Cars & Coffee events?

We now have two of them in our area - one at the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and another at New Orleans City Park at the Morning Call Coffee & Beignets behind the N.O. Museum of Art (NOMA) and the K&B Sculpture Garden
