  1. Dynaflash8, I don't know if it's a generational thing, but you may be right. The 50s is a decade that escapes me. I'm not interested in the cars, culture, or music. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, but my family always had cars of the 20s and 30s. I think white walls look fine on cars of the 50s and 60s. They are appropriate. In the 20s and 30s white walls were almost never fitted to cars from the factory. If you look at old period photos, maybe one car in 20 had white walls. I think that people started restoring pre-war cars in the 50s and 60s when white walls were all the rage, and so they became normal for pre-war cars. Now, these cars have had white walls on them longer than not, and so we see them as correct. Almost every Model A has white walls today. Whenever I see a Model A with black walls, I smile. As for my cars, Franklins almost never had white walls, almost as a rule, unless it was a special show car. I think cars of the early 30s look cleaner and prettier with black tires. White walls remind me of a woman with too much makeup, it's there to hide the ugly. By the way, my two Corvairs, my only post-war cars, both have narrow white walls.
  2. I was driving on them a few weeks ago. They rode fine, no vibration. I prefer black walls, and so I replaced them.
  3. Set of five tires. These are in good condition with almost no tread wear and no cracking. The white walls need scrubbing. I do not know how old they are. Pictures to come. $300 for all plus shipping.
  4. I would not put such a large tire on a 135. The only reason it works well on the 163, is the larger fenders. I think they would look too big on your car.
  5. I've had 7.00-19 Firestones on my '32 for quite some time now. I really like the way the larger tires look. I don't have side mounts, and so don't have to worry about them fitting in the wells. The car had Custom Classics prior, and they were terrible tires. They look great, but they follow ruts in the road, and generally handle poorly. They also cupped very early and were noisy, worn bald in under 10k miles.
  6. Summit Racing now sells Coker Tires, and offers free shipping. I just got a set of Firestones for my Olympic.
  7. I have a 1933 Franklin Olympic, which is essentially a repowered 1932 Reo Flying Coud. While there are three lenses on the tail lamp, one being clear, there are only two bulbs. One bulb for tail, one for stop. There are no actual reverse lamps. The way it was explained to me, was that while backing up in the dark, you could step on the brake to light up the area behind you. It's a lame explanantion, but it's all I have.

  10. Yes Mike. I have all of those items. Known missing: fuel tank and apron, front bumper. $4200 i also have tons of parts for sale or trade.
  11. This is a solid project car. The body has no rot. I have almost everything to make this a complete car. The engine turns over and has compression. I have all the fenders and hood. This is too good to part out. $4200. Car is located on Long Island, NY. Email sdbraverman@gmail.com
  12. There is a ton of information and support for Franklins. If you haven't already, join the HH Franklin Club. Come to the Franklin Trek this summer.
  13. Joe Aronson has reproduced most, if not all, of the Service charts. He can be reached at jha37@verizon.net or at 845-679-2691.
  14. New Pistons are available from Egge Machine. New timing chains are available from Jeff Hasslen.
  15. I own a complete and mostly original and correct 1932 Franklin. I can photograph anything on my car that you'd like to see.
  16. A vacuum tank is a very simple device. The upper chamber has a float and a snap valve. Either your float is stuck, the valve is leaking, or the rebuilder used springs that are too strong. Take off the top, and take a look.
  17. I just bought a brand new enclosed trailer. I would like to paint the floor and interior walls. What is a good paint to use that will not lift under the tires? Does anyone have any experience with this?
