  1. Thanks Mike, I'm paranoid about scratching the paint while putting things back on the car. I'm afraid I'm not much of a trophy collector but I enjoy it when people stop and have a look, I guess it shows you've rebuilt something special. I often drive along and see an old car going in the opposite direction and think hopefully I'll be driving mine one day. Anyhow back to refitting things and getting on with it. I must say having it painted has stirred me along. Ian
  2. I was wondering if anyone could post a close up of the way the accelerator linkage is mounted to the firewall from both the inside and outside the car. Thanks in advance Ian
  3. In the second photo they arn't paint dashes on the bonnet, thats the reflection of the lights on the roof !
  4. Back from the painter and picked up the bonnet parts. Nice !!!!
  5. Thanks ray an bob, lim off to dave the painter today to pick up the steering tube that had to be redone and the bonnet pieces. Now I'm back to running out of storage space again.
  6. This is a Photograph of a 1934 Dodge on the showroom floor. On the back of the picture it has "Chrysler Corp". So whether this is direct from their archives and being an actual photograph I don't know where it came from but I often look at it. You'll notice near the front wheel a cable hanging down. Maybe this was the freewheeling cable disconnected as it may have proved too dangerous in those days.
  7. There ya go guys....that looks better !!! No more philips Head Screws.
  8. Thanks for that I'll have a look at the site. I was also hoping that someone with a 34 could post some pics for me too. Thanks again Ian
  9. Ok, so I sat around long enough pondering "what the hell have I done" and thought that its time the body came off the chassis. I figured I didn't have that much to start with so I might as well start with nothing ! Used a heap of Penetrene and suprisingly the bolts undid fairly easily. Put two saw horses on either side at the rear and jacked up the back then slid a piece of wood under the main body. I had already built a frame made from pallets and four wheels which will keep the chassis low enough to fit under the raised up body. You can see the amount of muck stuck around the rear spring hangers but was confident that a trip to the blaster would fix this. Once the body is off I'd thought I would have better access to the rear spring so planning a bit ahead I'd remove those next and also the battery case support brackets. Regards Ian
  10. The rubber mouldings that, for instance, go around the door openings so that when the door shuts keeps the rain out. ive looked in the master parts book but its not really clear as to what's attached to where. hope this SpenserianSpenserian
  11. Hi Guy, Not sure but I'm sure one of the 34 truck guys would be able to help. Cheers Ian
  12. Garnish trims are a little hard to find. Door handles pop up on ebay now and then and the Chrome ring around the grill are very hard to find in good order. A guy I'm conversing with at the moment in Western Australia does have one on his wrecked 34 so I'll contact him to see if he wants to sell it. I had a spare, got it rechromed and sold it to someone in America for approx $170. I'll let you know if I find out anything. Regards Ian
  13. Hi All, Does anyone have any information on what, if any, weather seals were installed on a 34 Dodge. The Windscreen has one attached to it and the rear 1/4 vent windows have one vulcanised to its frame but not sure about the doors and a secondary one for the front windscreen. Again, as I didn't dismantle the car I'm not 100% sure. I'm reluctant to check Australian Bodied 34's as often they a slightly different from the American ones as Richards built the Bodies. Many thanks Ian
  14. Guy, not sure if you saw it but I posted a few pics for you under the thread 1934 parts available soon. These are of the cover that covers the wiper motors. ian
  15. Hi Jack, i have three brand new striker plates but they are vertical hole ( one on the top and one on the bottom ). No good for my car but haven't found what they belong to yet. If you come across some offset ones in your travels give me a yell could you. cheers ian
  16. Hi Jack, Not sure if this helps but my 34 striker plate holes are offset and not side by side like your application. Cheers Ian
  17. Hi Guy ( GDenton ), I was rereading your request for the panel that covers over the windshild wiper motors and I pulled mine out today to look to see where everything is going and I took some photos for you. The panel covers the wiper motors and then there is a garnish metal panel that covers the trim which has the woodgrain look put onto it. Hope this helps. Regards Ian
  18. Started pulling the front independent suspension off an found a lot of bitumen paint again. Also tackled the gearbox crossmember and did have a fight with one of the bolts but I won that round. Once all this is done I'll send the chassis, crossmember, running board brackets and as much as I get get hold of to send to the blaster and then the powder coater. Next step the battery support brackets and the body. I'll start pulling the small stuff from the body once the chassis has gone to the powder coater. Cheers Ian
  19. Gary, My running boards were made by Buckeye Rubber in the States. They had the original 34 pattern and three people in Victoria bought them ( one being me ) and cost us all up AUD$680 landed. Not a bad investment. May be a little more now but when I bought them the exchange rate was 90c. Cheers Ian
  20. Hi Gary, Not sure but you may have gathered mine is a Budd ( steel ) body. The 34's were made with two timber inserts in the floor. If you have a look at my album you'll see what I mean. The only timber in mine was 2 pieces that go between the body and chassis, 2 large flooring panels and a few other pieces that the upholstery is fastened to. If ok I'll send you a PM to you email address with some pics of what I'm looking after. I've attached a pic of the first valance panel I'm fitting after I picked it up from the painter. He also sprayed the same underbody spray inside the running boards. Cheers Ian
  21. Thinking about it, I assume this is a Richards Body. The timber rots and the steel rusts pretty quickly too. I suppose one benefit of having an all steel body is minimal timber to rot.
  22. Hi, the poor old girl has seen better days. Did the door pillars rust off ? Would you be interested in selling any tiny parts if they are still on it ? glad your enjoying the thread. I'm not an expert but try to do a reasonable job. I have also started a thread under Current Restoration Projects from when I started the car and hopefully I can remember what I did. cheers ian
  23. My 34 is still under restoration. I did say to my friends and family at the start of the year that this is the Year Of The Dodge. I plan on finishing the body, getting her painted, fitting some of the restored parts back on her including guards, running boards, roof insert, doors etc... This would be a big step for me. Often I am asked what am I going to do with it once I'm finished. I think Jason hit the nail on the head when he said you take people for a drive in it and the smile on their face tells the story. You can put an old car next to a Ferrari and I'll bet they are looking at the old car ! When mine is finished I'll probably do a few club runs and I've always wanted to drive my car to the Crown ( google it ) and park it out the front where the expensive cars are parked while I have dinner there ( our son is the Head Chef at a restaurant at Crown). I'm not into shows that much but rather historic shows so I'm not much of a trophy hunter rather its my hobby and I enjoy doing it ( until a bolt snaps then I don't ). I do enjoy the banter on this site and some comments can be a bit abrupt but we are all different and converse in different ways. Help at this site too is terrific and I enjoy feedback on my progress of my car and often people have asked how I've done things so even if I have helped one person then I'm happy. I hope everyone , including me, is around to see the finished product.
