  1. Thta's why my went out today untouched by my clumsy hands
  2. I had a chance to visit with Speedster last weekend and his home is literally a shipyard. Ships galore! Excellent detail work on them which I would not have the patience. I also saw his stable of Packards.
  3. Thanks. Being new to the biz, she wasn't clear what was correct except that the one she had that said "light Eight" wasn't correct. So looks like I'll get the right one. Some more $ to make things look better.
  4. West, I hadn't thought of them, but I did. They had one that looked like the one above so I assume that is the correct one evn though the one above is for a 32 Std 8 carb.
  5. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Packin31</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Ken, My dampener is all nicely painted so I am hesitating to take mine apart now. Do you all think I need to take mine apart? </div></div> Mine was also nicely painted. However I was convinced by others that I might as well have it refurbished now rather than face problems done the road when it be much more difficult to redo. I have a lot of mechanical receipts for the car, but nothing indicating this had been refurbished.
  6. It has already been shipped. I think I let that "idiot" Tom take his 31 apart Tom...that "idiot" reply was definitely not meant for you but for the owner of the car. At first it appears that way, but the author should had quoted the exact post in his reply to remove all doubts.
  7. Does anyone know who is making a reproduction top for these carbs as shown below?

Likely he still does. I have no other contact info. </div></div> I spoke with Ron and he won't do it any more. He said he doesn't know of anyone else that will do them Issue is the pot metal quality. It gets distorted because of the heat in the plating process and are very tough to get working after that. </div></div> Well while browsing last night on Ebay, I discovered that Ron Monte had placed for sale two perfect NOS 32-34 wiper motors on Ebay with a buy now price. I was never expecting to find anything like that on Ebay. I am happy to report I can now park in handicap parking because I had to give an arm and a leg for them. This purchase concludes my interior restoration. I have now two fair condition 32-34 wiper motors for sale. I only want an arm for them </div></div> Well Ron Monte put another pair on Ebay on Ebay at the same price I paid and the auction ended in one day with a "Buy Now". If Ron has any of these left, I bet he quits putting a "buy now" on the auction and gets double what we paid for them. Now at Packard shows I can look for the other guy missing an arm and a leg but has impeccable wiper motors.

    Resto Rod ????

I have both, and I think both of my cars are pretty dang cool. However, I have a real appreciation for the interior of these older closed cars. The cool little details of the interior are just not seen on open cars. Same goes for the more interesting fabrics, etc. I mean, people get off on this 'Queer guys with straight arrows' or whatever, so why not original interior design of cars? This is something that has bothered me as late. Of course, I have been bothered far more by dreams of being chased by Irish Wolfhounds, but that is a different story. Tom </div></div> I also wonder why people don't like touring cars as much as 5 passenger open cars. In regards to open vs. close, I've alway been told it's because these cars are driven in fair weather and so the top is down. Plus as an ego thing, you are easier seen in an open car than in a close car. I prefer driving my car with the top down as it has nuch better visibility I I think it's more fun with the top down.
  10. Oh and yes thanks to all who provided advice. This has been a very interesting thread and I hope more will learn from it.

I bought the whole puller as I didn't know what other surprise I would find and I didn't want to make another trip. It was a 2 pull operation. First the pulley and then the dampener. No bolts were holding the pully to the dampener.

    Resto Rod ????

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Packin31</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Tom, We will never understand why this happens but more power to them I guess since money is no probably to some people out there. Sure wish it would grow on my tree in the yard </div></div> Well unfortunately a rod made out of a Packard close car will bring more money than a stock one. Perhaps the rest of the car needs restoration and it's a incomplete unfinsihed project. Tt's hard to tell from the pictures. But look at it this way, one less stock packard, will make your stock Packard more valuable. Maybe he had the engine rebuilt twice.
  13. I will post pictures. ETA of success is 4 hours from now
  14. So the bolts must be on the side you can't see. I'll try the steering wheel puller tonight. Thanks for the advice on it being heavy.
  15. Is the puller part of the dampener so if I pull off the pully the dampener will come off with it? I thought it would be two puller oprations. One for the pulley and one for the dampener.
  16. Thanks,I have simple steering wheel puller and a pulley puller like puller Looks like the Harbor Freight one is more flexible. I called Damper Dudes. 2 day turnaround @ $225. They refurbish the entire dampener.
  17. Or to your girlfriend or wife why you are spending so much time in the garage. Hey that may be a positive result of taking so much time Of course I made it a worse place to be with installing the TV, sereo and heater.
  18. Sometimes it seems as it is 2 steps forward and then 3 steps back. Though not being a daily driver, I just back off and then try another time.
  19. OK, I made the "tool" using a die grinder, blocked the fly wheel with a piece of wood and the screw came out fairly easy. Victory on the first try. I like how these "easy" ones. Though now I need to pick up a replacement socket at the April Portland swap meet. Now for the next step. What kind of puller would you use to remove the pulley and the dampener? Steering wheel puller?

Wish I could help, but the 30 doesn't have anything that looks like that. Have you tried Yeska? He sometimes has odd stuff like that. Tom </div></div> No kust noticed that I was missing it though it could be around soemwhere as I've been known to misplace things That coil will be shipping out tomorrow.
  21. I'm missing one of these nuts that secures the hood lace on the radiator shell. It secures the lace about 1/2 down the shell.
  22. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: 34PackardRoadsta</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Rick, Ken I can get a shot of my tool if you need it. Ah, geez, I mean a shot of my socket. Or, well, you get the idea. Tom </div></div> Tom...it's scary that you have the same warped sense of humor that I have.
  23. Thanks for the advice from both of you. I will probably give my local Packard mechanic a call to see what he has before I destroy a socket...though I am given it new life as a different tool.
  24. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: 34PackardRoadsta</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Did you check in the coil? </div></div> Well it was 1 AM this morning when I finally had most of the screws in so I decided to wait until I had a good night sleep to look for them. I did have a good night sleep as I finally declared victory over the radiator shell. Previously I had been defeated twice.
  25. I'm looking at the dampener and belt pully assembly. From the drawings supplied, it looks like the screw that holds the pulley on is simple unscrewed to start the disassembly process. However this screw appears to be a rod with a pin thru the end to mate with a hand crank rod. Is there a special or homemade tool that you have used to unscrew this screw?
