WOrk it out and like another post up there says...............be patient! I don't have any interest one way or the other but I do buy/sell alot of stuff on ebay. The only negative I ever got (wich was later retracted) was from a guy like you with aboslute terms that he wouldn't compromise on. Turned out his email wasn't working and he didn't receive my reply and address within 24 hours like the auction said and he relisted and gave me negative (thats why it was retracted when we worked it all out). Even though it worked out, I didn't get the item I wanted/needed and there's a black mark against me for no reason. To this day I still think the guys a grade A jerk. Be better then that guy and be flexible, that's all i'm saying.
  4. Sounds to me like you didn't get as much as you think you should of for the car and this is an easy out for you to try again to get more. No offence but THAT sounds a little crappy to me, NOT the guy trying to get the money to you. I'd be more than a little POed at a guy who sold a car out from under me when I was trying to give him money. He isnt the bank and can't control what they say to you. It isn't like he bid and then disappeared. Things happen, maybe your wife could lighten up a little about it and give it time to work itself out. Next week when you cash that check you will both forgett all this nonsence. YOu sure it isnt just "sellers remorse"???
  5. I read somewhere (it may have been on this board) that prices change to reflect the <span style="font-style: italic">cost to replace existing supplies</span> (wow, I used italics!). Yes, they already have the gas in the tank underground, so how can they raise prices???? Well, once the tank's empty they gotta buy more gas and it will be more expensive. I think most commoddities (sp?) work that way, even milk and butter and grocerys. I don't know how honest the oil companies are, but if you weren't buying it, they'd charge less.....supply vs. demand. Maybe they have us by the short hairs because we have a whole economy based on gasoline, but who's fault is that?????? The oil companys didn't force all of us to buy a SUV. If it was you, would you do any different? Woudn't you want to make as much money as you could if you had a product that everyone is buying???? They could raise prices even more and we will still buy the stuff, so why don't they????? My mother always said "if you don't like it, don't eat it." Seems like that would work here to. If you don't like the high prices, find a way to save money on gas. I know I just sold my Corvette because I couldnt afford to drive it as much as I used to. Now I drive a used Ford Focus to work and get 32mPG! That put money back in my wallet, I"ll tell you that much. I didn't like it, so I stopped eating it...............

I also feel like I'm being singled out here in the exchange because I decided to help this guy find a way to modify his car. I can appreciate stock cars and I've built some rodds. To me its all good if your having fun with your car. It was the attitude that this newcomer right off the bat got that kind of turned me off. When I started coming here a few months ago the welcome was pretty warm because I found other people with cars like mine or because they were happy to see someone else enjoying an old car in pretty much original condition. I'm not going to cut up my Buick, but it now has an electric fuel pump to keep it running, a non-original oil pressure gauge and some kind of exhaust whistle that sure ain't stock, the front seat is vinyl instead of leather and sooner or later I'm gonna have to paint it and I'm going to use clearcoat paint. Where does my car fit? Am I "with you" or "against you"? Anyways the problem I had was with the icy reception a newcomer received, regardless of his intents with his car, not with any individuals or what they do with there own cars. If I sounded like I was dumping on BillP I sure didn't mean it that way. It was the message not the messenger that riled me up.

The point is that there are about a hundred posts around here wondering how to attract younger people to the hobby, and this kind of attitude chases them away. The guy was asking for advice, thinking that guys who like cars are all the same and that we share a common interest and that maybe we could help him out. It looks like there are a few peopel who can help him here, with one exception.......you. We don't have to give him step-by-step instructions on how to cut up his car (note that it is HIS car), but we can at least extend a helping hand to a fellow hobbyist, even if you don't agree with his choices. Would you treat me the same if I wanted to paint my 25 Buick bright pink? I dont think anyones time is wasted helping someone else, even if you dont agree with there objectives. He's probably going to modify the car with or without our help, why not make sure he does it safely and with the information he needs? Why not help him join the old car hobby, because if he's like me, he'll get tired of the hot rodds someday and get an old car to enjoy stock, and maybe he would have come here looking for friends. Instead, he'll remember that we chased him away with pitchforks and torches..............

  10. Having done some motor swaps myself in the past, anything is possible. But your the engineer now and you will have to come up with alot of solutions to problems you don't even nkow you have yet. All it takes it time, money and talent, and if your short in any of those areas, it will take more of the others. But anything is possible, be creative! The thing about hybrid drivetrains is the electroncis. I don't know how integrated they are into the rest of the car, but it would seem to me that putting that kind of drivetrain in a much heavier car could cause problems with the computer that controlls it. Plus I can't imagine how tuff it will be to rewwire everything! Hope your a computer programmer, too! How about a diesel?
  11. But why boats? The carvings are incredible, but what inspires him to carve a Ferrarri or a MG or a horse and carriage and turn it into a boat? I don't really get that connection, though it is pretty cool.
  12. My dad had a 66' Caddy Develle conv. that seemed to rust right before you're eyes! He had the frame welded once or twice, but after that they said there was nothing left to weld to and he sold the car. We saw it later on a used car lot and the windows wouldn't close all the way because the body was starting to sag under the doors. You could see where the doors were hitting the body because the paint was all worn off and cracked. I'd say if it's rusty, let it go. You will break the bank trying to restore a car like that, even to a decent driver. It will never be worth what you have in it. Follow the advice above adn if you love this type of car, buy a nice one that doesn't need much work. This one, even at a $1000 bargain price, isn't a bargain.

  15. I'd just replace the one broken muffler and not worry about matching. I found in my Corvette and hot-rod projects that having two different mufflers on a dual-exhaust system would tend to cancel out the dreaded "2000RPM Drone" that allot of aftermarket mufflers have. On my Vette I used one Edelbrock and one Borla (both stainless!!!!) and it sounded great and didn't drone at crusing speeds. Just a thought.........
  16. Kinda sad that they seem to beleive its a high dollar car just beccuase they want to get more then they paid for it 20 years ago. Someone bought it for a investment. Well guess what all investments don't turn into gold! My grandmother always said there's nobody as blind as the ones who won't see! I paid about 1/3 their asking price for my 25 and I'll bet its allot more rare and valuable a car. Heck for that money you could buy a nice Vette and still have money leftover for gas for a year! Has anyone pointed them to the Old Cars value guide or somethign like that? Moving it to another auction won't make any more money than EBAY I think. Maybe they were watching too much Barret Jackson!
  17. I wish my car needed some of those parts Patrick! I did get teh car up and running good by hooking up the electric fuel pump that the last owner installed. I run it for a few seconds before I start the car, and have to remember to turn it on every so often when I drive to refill the vaccum tank. Now it runs great! Impressive power for such an oldie! My friend's Durant can't keep up with my big green buick on the hills and it seems pretty happy at about 50-55MPH! And it makes a cool hissing sound as I roll in and out of the gas. What a great machine! I'll try to post pictures soon (no digital so I'll scan some that I took when I first bought it).
  18. I definitely wouldn't feel "safe" about removing any part of a frame. I built allot of rods in my past and always found that the factory frames were built that way for a reason. Putting more power in and taking out frame supports sounds like a recipe for disaster IMHO. I don't think the x member supports the torqe tube on buick's. It's there to keep the frame square and rigid. If your going to use the original frame, keep it as srong as possible by leaving the crossmembers alone and possibly reinforce them with welds at the rivited joints. You should be able to route teh exhaust in a way that doesn't mean you have to cut up the frame. Hotrodding is all about innovation!

  20. Thanks for the offer Patrick. I called the guy I bought it from and he said that the owner before him had the electric pump hooked up to pump gas into the vacum tank and probably just ran the pump every so often to keep it full. I'm gonna try that before I start getting all into replacing the tank. I just want a nice driver and if I can keep it looking original with the elec. pump that seems easy. I'll let you know on the other stuff after I get it going and drive it around a little this summer. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I always enjoy going to the dealer and seeing if I can "outsmart" the sales guy. To me it gives me a edge I can use against him in haggleing. Just the same theres really no excuse for not knowing the product your selling even if it isn't on your lot yet. Just think of how many people get "taken" by these guys simpely because the "John Q. Public" folks think of them as "experts." They don't care if their selling ties or toasters or Buicks, its all the same.
  22. Hi all. I just bought a 1925 Buick touring model 25 (hence the name...catchy, isn't it). The car still has its original paint..what's left of it anyway... and a lot of other stuff so I guess you could say it was restored "as needed". It is dark green with black leather interior, black top and a red pinstripe with black fenders. The wheels are beautiful wooden spoke and the steering wheel looks like it is made out of the same wood. If nothing else someone sure took care of the wood on this car! The previous owner had a new top and sidecurtains made and new leather in the front seat but I think the back seat is original beacause of how hard and brittle it is. I'm going to try to bring it back to life, but it feels like hard cardboard so we'll see how that goes! The last owner just rebuilt the engine recently, but when I bought it from him he said it didn't run because of the vacum tank. I did notice that there is a electric fuel pump under the car but it isn't hooked up to anything so maybe that's the problem? When I pour gas into the tank, it fires right up and runs pretty well, but I have not been able to drive it very far because it runs out of gas after about 200 yards! I have a shop manual that came with the car so I'll start working on it soon. I think it also needs new tires because the previous owner said they were already on the car when he bought it in 1982! Wow! Those tall whitewalls sure look great on the car with the wood spokes, though. I'm looking forward to getting more involved here and with the car at my local club. I have a buddy with a 1923 or 1922 Durant that looks alot like my Buick so he's going to show me the ropes!
  23. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get new sidecurtains for a 1925 Buick standard six touring car? The previous owner redid the top and the interior, but the sidecurtains were stored somewhere wet and got ruined. Is there a place that makes repros or do I have to find someone to make a set? TIA!
