  1. Adam, looking forward to pictures of the work on the 62. That 62 looks much better than mine, though.
  2. I haven't tried it, but I think it would be easier to swap in a TH-200R4 (like Buick used behind the turbo V6) since it has the BOP bolt pattern, where the TH700R4 has a Chevy pattern. Brian
  3. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Keith, It's not about the Prius. GM has banked the whole company on a badge engineered truck chassis.... For an Tahoe clone to replace the current Ranier--the Enclave is OK. Not great, won't look like the concept but OK. Will I buy one--nope. Will I rent one---not likely. Does it make me want to go to a dealer to see it in person--nope. It DOES NOT meet my needs.</div></div> The Enclave though is not going to be on a badge engineered truck chassis. It has nothing in common with the Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade which are all being built on the GMT-900 chassis. The Enclave is going to be built on GM's Lambda architecture, which will provide the structure for a couple other SUV's and GM's new minivans. It may not meet your needs, but it will meet the needs (or wants) of a bunch of people. Buick has been selling loads of Rendezvous' and a fair number of Rainiers. The Enclave will be replacing both. I have a wife and a couple of kids, and we make frequent long distance road trips, so I have no need for a coupe or convertible. A large sedan would be OK for my needs, but I prefer an SUV or minivan for the extra cargo room.
  4. I'm with you Keith, when Honda (or anybody else) figures out how to make a Civic sized vehicle that has as much interior passenger and cargo space as my minivan or SUV and gets 50 mpg and is comfortable for a cross-country for my family of four, then I will look at it (I would even settle for 40 mpg ). Until then I will stick with minivans and SUV's and if the production Enclave looks like this one, I guarantee it will be on my shopping list.
  5. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What motor is this? It is a GM 8 cylinder and was turbo. The serial# is in front of the distributor hole and is 10009192. </div></div> That number is the block number for a 1980 Pontiac 301 (4.9L)V8 Turbo.
  6. Greg, that is absolutely incredible. I was a frequent visitor to the old site after finding it while looking for infomation on my 62. Brian
  7. Tuesday Dec 13th $2.19... Wednesday Dec 14th $2.29... Thursday Dec 15th $2.39...at least I filled up on Tuesday.
  8. For some reason I wasn't expecting a 1904 Buick when you said 04 Buick.
  9. I saw one in Black and I thought it was stunning. One of my favorite parts is the modern interpretation of the port holes...really cool looking.
  10. Lamar, thanks for posting that. Brian USMC 1995-Present
  11. Current bid, as of 3:18 pm CST on 11/11/05 is $96100.10 and the reserve has not been met yet!
  12. I'm with Adam on this one...of course, I am partial to early 60's Buicks.
  13. That rental is an '06 DTS, right? Must be nice, my last rental was a Ford Focus.
  14. Randy, we're practically neighbors. Brian
  15. It was frigid that day. I had a hard time keeping my wife from dragging me away from the show before I made it around to all of the cars. BTW whereabouts do you live? I am in Waterford, in western Racine county. Brian
  16. This probably doesn't help you much, but the firewall on my 62 Electra is body color. Brian
  17. You got me all excited because I love seeing other 62's...then I find out it is a 63...still a nice looking car, though.
  18. manik, was that picture of your Reatta taken at the show at Greenfield Pontiac-Buick this summer? The car and the background look familiar...I went to that show, but my Buick didn't due to some cooling system problems. Brian
  19. Adam, thanks. I guess I should have checked your parts directory, huh? John, I have the Chassis manual and have thought about getting the CD and am saving for the actual other manuals. Maybe I should get the CD sooner, so I have at least something handy? Brian
  20. Thanks JD! I'll give that a shot. The sender is the type that bolts to the tank. So, I'll run a wire from one of the bolts to a good ground. I'm an electronics tech in the Marines, so I am getting frustrated with myself for not being able to figure this out. I guess three years on recruiting duty has taken its toll and my skills are somewhat rusty. Brian
  21. Don, thanks for looking at my gas gauge question. I was thinking it must be the dash unit after the testing I did, but was hoping for some confirmation. So, the dash unit can be removed from the cluster? If so, then I need to find a dash unit. Any ideas where it find one? Sorry if its a dumb question, but my parts finding experience pretty much ends at the local Auto Zone or Napa store.
  22. Thank you all for your comments! The color combination on the car is one that I didn't really appreciate at first, but over the years has grown on me. It is Glacier Blue and Acrtic White. The car was repainted by a previous owner, and it wasn't a very good job (its a decent 20 footer). As I have done more work on the car I have found all kinds of runs and drips, one porthole that wasn't taped off very well (blue paint in it), and basically nothing was moved or removed to do the painting. The blue isn't an exact match, but its close and I don't have an idea of how close the white is. The restoration will be some work, but it appears that the trunk is the worst of the rust repair, anyhow I plan to take it down to the frame when I do the resto. It is pretty much untouched (and pretty ugly) under the hood, so if anybody has questions on how things should be under there I may be able to help. More pictures will come soon.
  23. Here is another picture, a shot of the rear. The rusty muffler hanging down has been replaced with a dual outlet muffler (so it looks like I have a dual exhaust) and some chrome exhaust tips. Thank you for taking the time to look at my car. If you want to check out my question about my gas gauge, click here gas gauge question
  24. Unfortunately, the years in storage weren't the kindest to it. There is now pretty severe cancer in the trunk, and the mice had a field day until I had figured out how to keep them out of the car. My plans are to restore the car, which since I am still in the Marines will probably going to take a long time. I would like to get the trunk area repaired before I move, since I may have to drive it to my next duty station next June. Other than that my plans before I move are all centered around improving the driveability of the Electra. (See my question on fixing the gas gauge, please!) The other side of the trunk is the same and the body mounts which are below those areas are very rough and would need to be replaced also.
  25. Hello everyone! My name is Brian. I have been hanging around here for a while, mainly gathering knowledge and occasionally expressing an opinion. I have been a Buick owner for a little over 10 years now. In June 1995 I purchased a 1962 Buick Electra 225 (model # 4819). I had been looking for an old Pontiac, since I had grown up following in my dad's footsteps as a Pontiac fan, but I came across this Electra and after a short test drive I had fallen in love with it. I enlisted in the Marines and went to boot camp shortly after that, and the car went into storage. The Electra spent most of the next 8 years in storage, coming out for my wedding and when I was home on leave (and the weather was nice). In late 2002 I found myself close to home on recruiting duty for the Marines, and immediately started my plans to bring the Buick out of storage and get it back on the road. In June 2003 the Electra came out of storage and after replacing the fluids, tires and battery and fixing the coil ground wire (which had been eaten by a mouse) the car started right up and hit the road again.
