  1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-Other-2-DOOR-CONVERTIBLE-ROADSTER-1989-CHRYSLER-TC-BY-MASERATI-VERY-NICE-CALIFORNIA-CAR-/251623883880?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3a95f3c468&item=251623883880&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Looks like brakes work to me, this is at top dollar for one of these right now. Sorry you had to put too much money into yours for what it is worth, maybe in 10 or 20 more years. This group is great for helping others learn how to diagnose and repair their TCs without having to pay a mechanic to fumble around and charge them for time wasted and wrong parts replaced. The cars are worth what they are worth right now, and that is at the bottom of their depreciation curve, where they will stay for a few more years.
  2. OK guys, he has been educated that this is not the forum to sell his car at the price he is looking for. He is obviously looking for a buyer that sees a red convertible with a Maserati name on it and doesn't do any googling to see what it actually is. If he really has 30 years of experience with cars then he knows that the labor portion of a repair is NEVER recovered at sales time and his repairs are the type that if the system is not functioning properly gets a huge deduction from value at sales time. He is also being fooled by the asking prices that are out there on cars that have been sitting unsold for many years. His best bet is to ebay the parts he has and then sell the car separately on ebay with an opening bid of 3000 and omitting the blustery bits from of the description. There is currently a red California TC on ebay that he should watch closely for clues on value. It is on its second auction after going to over 5 grand and apparently having a buyer back out. The other auction he should look at is the lousy looking red TC in Cali that is severely overpriced for condition that has NO bids, actually two of those right now.
  3. Two different types of Auto Shut Down relay were used. One type is a silver somewhat rectangular/oval relay on the drivers side strut tower next to a similar looking starter relay. If your car only has one relay of this type then you need to look for a squarish black relay about 1" on a side next to a few others just like it on the inner driver side fender in front of the strut tower area. The squarish relay did not show up in any parts books when I needed one, eventually found it to be the same as some Dodge Shadows, I think about an 1989 or so. There is a post that includes the info in about 2004 but I can't find it with the search function. If I remember correctly, the wires are still the same color coding as for the other relay in the service manual.
  4. At that price I am assuming this one is a DOHC with 5 speed trans and under 20,000 miles but you made no mention of these particulars in the posting.
  5. I want a blue TC but not that blue, I like the bright, light, blue on 2009-10 Dodge Challenger Classic models, made to resemble 1970 Challenger B5 blue. I looked at ebay for any blue convertible in the completed listings so the owner must have removed his own listing, glad you managed to get the photos to post here.
  6. I don't see a 'survivor' in that CL ad, just a modified car that if the mods were removed would require a repaint, seat leather can't be seen through the covers and the carpet has been changed from tan to a dark gray or black. Dash woodgrain is a reversable mod. Oh, pics show a red car with mostly tan interior. When posting on this forum it is a good idea NOT to count on a CL ad for a description, those ads don't last very long and then your description is gone.
  7. You can also blow the electronics by jump starting another vehicle. When the dead car starts, the good car can get a severe electronic spike and end up needing a very expensive repair. Carrying a jumpstart device is a good idea if you like to rescue people or need to use it on your own car.
  8. NEVER with the car running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have put that whole thing in caps! With the car NOT running, remove the negative battery cable, leave off for at least 10 minutes, longer is better to force a return to default settings. Any electronics in the car will have to be reset, clock, radio presets, etc.
  9. Thank you for the good words. The best part is that anyone else can download from the yahoo group and keep it going if I can't, or just put additional info in that they want to track.
  10. Old Cars Price Guide is widely known as "optimistic" on values. You can probably count on selling price being about half what that publication lists. The way the car presents itself to a potential buyer is EVERYTHING to the value. Get it cleaned up and sitting in an area that is clean and organized if you want top dollar, show that the car has been cared for and buyers will generally pay more than if it is just sitting outside a shop surrounded by a lot of loose parts.
  11. Umm, NOT. I saw this on ebay a couple days ago and added it to my list. Made a note of Tuskegee airman's name but no note about the, um-added items. I think this one will be a very tough sell.
  12. But then you would get the trunk carpet dirty!
  13. The 89 is different than the others. 90 and 91 have the body color strip around the back while the 89 (not sure if the entire year's production) have that strip, in black, integrated with the rest of the weatherstrip that goes all the way around the windows and front. I don't know a source for either since I've never looked.
  14. Are the plugs all the same heat range? Same manufacturer and length from outside thread end (includes ALL of the thread in measurement) to tip of electrode? Cap could have hairline cracks that only show up at full engine compartment heat. After that I am thinking all that is left would be a valve problem, injector problem (harness?) or a head/headgasket problem.
  15. For ABS it is on the passenger side of engine compartment, for large size relays and fuses it is on the driver side of engine compartment, and for other things it is beside the steering column at the left bottom of dash behind a cover.
  16. I managed to upload the MS Excel file on the Yahoo Group, it is in the 'files' section for anyone to download for themselves.
  17. I finally got the database into MS Excel and saved it as compatible to the 2003 version so it should be readable to most Excel versions and the OpenOffice database as well. I stopped proofreading when the spelling of black and yellow looked totally off to my brain even though I knew they were correct. I made a few adjustments, like the VIN as the first column, dropped the transmission column and relabeled the engine listings as SOHC, DOHC, and V6. The colors now have separate columns for paint, leather, and softtop and should be more readable. I dropped the column for slave cd player as this was a dealer installed item. As an Excel file, the database can be saved and modified by others if they have a desire to put other information in their own version. They can even tart up the formatting and add a blank column to fill in with a color to match the paint color......this kind of thinking is why I stopped making changes! I don't see how to upload the file so I will make another post with a cut and paste version.
  18. ?? Waste gate on turbo?? I think that has a vacuum valve and won't affect idle.
  19. Should be the same turbo in TC, Daytona, and LeBaron models from 1989 on the SOHC 2.2 with intercooler setup.
  20. The big question is whether or not the car was inundated by water during a hurricane. If the car is far enough north of New Orleans then you are probably safe in that regard. The steering wheel is visible through the window so the dark windows are probably just a result of the car cover that is still over the passenger side of the car.
  21. If you don't get ALL the clearcoat off then you will always see the change in level where the new clear went on. Never a good idea to try this trick, you might as well try spraying with the new protective clear film that is being advertised all over the TV lately. My experience includes managing a "quickie" body shop in California and helping my brother in his Mopar restoration body shop in Louisiana. Yes, people really do expect a $300 quickie job to turn out the same as a $30,000 restoration but it just isn't going to happen.

Last edited by Hemi Dude; June 28th, 2013 at 11:21. Reason: Added engine type Hemi Andersen hemland@aol.com I have parts for sale. '89 TC w/2.2L 8 valve - 5 speed (A555) Exotic Red, Converted to standard brake system. '85 Voyager w/3.0L MMC, 3 speed Automatic, Gold '85 Laser w/2.5L Turbo Intercooled /(Getrag) Transaxle Check out my cars at http://www.allpar.com/model/tc.html Umm, no comment except that the photos of the one being repaired seem to show a bordeaux interior but it is just barely visible. Maybe VIN was published erroneously either NOW or in the PREVIOUS post? Could these possibly be the same vehicle?
  23. Someone has 200126 built 06/88 in Cabernet/bordeaux/black with SOHC and automatic.
  24. Sorry, the database is not online anymore, it got tedious when Yahoo changed the format. I still add by inkpen to my printout of it but don't know when I'll have the time to make a microsoft office version of it. I do have an aversion to microsoft software that gets worse with the years but they are the most common way to share things like spread sheets and databases. This last car has been added to my printout already. The woodgrain seems to have started in Feb or March of 1989 at around the vin 201500 but one was late 201400's and no woodgrain on some early 201500's. The cars were not assembled in strict VIN order, if a dealer wanted a combination for a sold car then that car was finished before others with lower VINs.
  25. I think he is looking for the RB version of the 383, same stroke as 413 and 440. The B version of the 383 is the common version, same stroke as the 350, 361, and 400 engines.
