  1. it's not that costly!!! i purchased a "fine-stone" reamer for a brake cylinder that you chuck into your variable speed drill, that and some cutting oil cost me $10-15 dollars if that. once you get the new bushings in! the kingpins will not fit... you need to take your time with this fit, short interval reaming sessions with several thorough cleanings & checks in between....are suggested. the 3 most important parts will be inserting the thin feeler guage washers to keep the end play tight. the second is a combination effort: first reaming the bushings for a tight fit onto the kingpins. and, third and last, it seems when you set the tapered-pin into it's home position it has a tendancy to lock-up, hinder and instantly increase the amount of swing effort it takes to move this joint. where does this tapered pin end-up, and how tight will it be and how does it effect the pressure between the bushing and kingpin can be enormous, is the big question now! the pins they send you are standard, which are slightly over-sized. you will need to test each pin prior to the kingpins insertion.. try the tapered-pin first, alone! then custom grind the angle side on the taper-pin to fit the kingpin tapered slot, make sure the tapered pin end's up in the correct holding position and make sure when it is in this position that it does not warp the kingpin or, "specifically" you do not put too much pressure into this taper pin that it makes it very difficult and requires a high effort to move or swing the joint....it must swing, and be tight, but not excessively tight to where it can hurt the bushing. you want the snuggest and a reasonably tight fit, but not and unforgiving pinch that can prematurely wear out the darn thing! dont forget to lock the tapered pins into position with a punch when everything is done and acceptable.
  2. regarding a 49 dynaflow & torque-tube what oil or lube are you supposed to use in the rear end? how much is it, 3Qt/6pt. is there any inter-action between the transmission fluid and the rear end fluid/oil? what are the differances if any? or, are the fluids in the transmission and the rear-end, one in the same? if they are the same, where would you fill or check the rear end fluid level? (from the trans fill)or (the rear-end fill ports) are they sharing fluids? are they separate? if the transmission oil can leak out the torque ball seal, as stated.... is it possible for the transmission fluid to continue its leak down through, and past the torque tube, and end up spilling into the rear end? is that the way it's designed? or, is it suppossed to be kept separate with a different fluid in the rear end, compared to the transmission fluid type - is there a spline seal or something that is supposed to keep these two separate and needs to be checked? if all this is crazy, and the exact same fluid is used in the rear end, then what static checks do you suggest we make to confirm proper levels, if it's the same fluid or separate type's of fluid, where do you make these checks on a DYNAFLOW & torque-tube set up?
  3. ok- im glad your alright! and about the rest, the closer you look, the more you will have to comment about. i know it sucks! don't it. you pay all your due's and go pretty much by all the rules, except the one's that don't completely cover your only hobby, and your kinda stuck...oh well. that's life, time to find a new house, something not so close to the street, and a little further from your neighbors. and stop yelling at those darn kids in the driveway-your just going to draw attention to yourself!
  4. where's is matt! and what have you done with him? im taken aback, this just doesn't seem like the matt i thought i knew well matt, it looks like your deep into this hobby now my friend, to me, the discuss with humanity was the first sign that i needed to inject other social activities into my calendar,i did that, and when i attend those social functions to better myself, i keep catching myself making under-breath comments welcome to the old-man's club my friend!
  5. e.mail me- at home it is: passan74@comcast.net work is: dpassan@edrodynawash.com
  6. you had the tie-rods replaced, then an alignment! then you had new tires put on....why...i think that's alittle backwards. im guessing nobody at this place really made the proper recommendations, in the correct order, unless your old tires were like new...? the alignment is difficult enough for a good technician, not to mention all these other factors that can affect it. so going back, and making sure you let them know that your aware of what's going on might help, if this place is talented enough!
  7. wow! beautiful- i like! what's the price? what state are you in?

  13. 1949 buick super convertible, 4 sale the intention was to rebuild the car, that has changed now. the engine and transmission were rebuilt and re-installed to test them.. they were pulled out again, thinking that the car's restoration would have been continued, so here it sits the rest of the car sits with front fenders off, complete car black with red interior, needs total restoration. i have pictures, i will e.mail them to interested parties. dpassan@edrodynawash.com this is a $10k plus car, just so you know where it stands!
  14. on a nice flat garage floor cut 4 blocks of wood to the height you would like to see the frame drop to "one block for each corner" fire protect everything, and start to heat the springs with your torch, nice and even, when the car drops onto the block, move onto the next spring and repeat, now you can actually see what it will look like lowered, if there are shock lever arm restrictions, you'll need to remove and reposition the shock lever arm to accomodate the new sitting position and travel length. i don't recommend driving on these re-tempered springs, there is a possibility that they may fail, but your doing this to find the perfect height, and by removing the springs you can bring them with you, when you go out to buy your new one's! you'll have the exact size you need in hand!
  15. not sure what the gator, the harley,or, the zoom is? makes ya wonder, maybe fogerty has a site you can ask these questions? god knows what the slang references might be refering to. im going to practice dancin with the top down, standin up, and the seat all the way back, soon as it gets warm!!
  16. tell them $2,000 for the entire weekend, and you go with it, how far away is it? can they rent you a room if it's far away? at night, lock that sucker up, set the alarm, the convention center security will keep an eye on it, it will give you something to do during the day, find out who the security guys are, talk to them...! where else can they get a car like yours charge em' for it, go have fun!!! TRUE STORY>>>>>>> a friend of mine got $ 2,000 dollars for 2 minutes of film, of his car going over a bridge in new york, he lives 1 hour from new york, they flat bed his car, and paid him 2 grand! for the day, and the time it took to get a couple of minutes of film.... then at the end of the day, that was absolutely gorgeous, my friend decided that since he was an hour away, he would put the top down and drive his car home!!! he was 10 minutes from home when a deer ran out, and creamed his pass side fender, and related parts. almost 4,000 dollars damage.....oh-man!!! what can i say?
  17. if possible, would you share that information on where to get those panels? maybe a phone number, or, an E.mail address. company's name, or person's name? much thanks...
  18. im glad your welder suggested that you ask around! i don't think buick made replacement floor sections, none that i've seen in my travels, you could have a custom floor section built???? once your rusted section is cut out, you will see the front support foot, a complex stamped piece thats spot welded to the bottom of the floor pan, and an integral part connected to the a-pillar etc...check out matt harwoods site, it may be what your going through... http://www.harwoodperformance.bizland.com/1941buick/index.html you might find someone that has been through this and saved the floor pattern? try re-posting, supply more specific information. bring your car to a metal fabricators shop, at what cost, and how long will it take.....? in my area, Bob mcgee , is a metal magician, and will answer any of your questions, R/CAR (Rods/Customs & Restorations) Custom Fabrication and Panel Shop Berlin, Connecticut. Email: my55rock@aol.com you can descide after all your option's are on the table! good luck.

  20. i don't want you complaining to me later, so im telling you now!! if something happens to you when your listening to big joe, im not responsible!! if your going to be multi-tasking, this will be your own fault! trying to drive, and dance, just don't work. He-He! i forget what cut it is on that CD, but as you listen to the songs, on one,he sings about a young school girl, who he finally is able to pick up in his Roadmaster.. i still have to collect his other CD's i just never get around to it, as i prepare for another upcoming season with my 49 roady convertible! when i have the top down, and this CD playing, on a country road, i wonder what the rich people are doing, and to quote you " it don't get much better"
  21. during the rebuilding of my 49 roadmaster convertible, the only sort of problem i had, was with CAR's. regarding front tie-rod ball joint ends, they sent 2 different kinds at first. and one of the protective sleeve's was missing on one, and it damaged the thread's. i called and was told the owner was out, and could not get a refund until he get's back NEXT WEEK, O.K.... they said i have to buy 2 more, and ship the bad one's back, i asked about all the extra shipping charges, and they said they couldn't do anything right then, O.K...... i asked them, do you think it's possible that you can look at them first, and make sure i get 2 of the same kind, and make sure the threads are not damaged!!! so, i gave him my credit card again, and sure enough 2 different one's came to me, they fit but they were by 2 different manufacturer's. i called back, and asked them what it will take to get 2 of the same manufactured ball joints, just for HA-HA's. and then i got the big story....how rare these parts were, and how there are very few left! all i remember is having many sheets of information and notes, and several calls to strasighten this out, and i did pursue the shipping charges with the owner, and offered my sincere condolances when a company cannot rely on a trusted individual besides himself, when he's not there! i finally did get reimbursed for the shipping and still have 2 different type's of ball joint's, am i happy? hell no! it stressed me out, with all the phone calls i paid for, and my time is valuble! but, i was lucky to cut my teeth on this small dollar experience, and learned a lesson, i don't buy anything from them, no need to!! everything i need can be had elsewhere, i only tried CAR's that one time! hey im building a roadmaster! im use to spending money, his place was small peanuts! i guess this is a good lesson to people on how they operate, weather it's your own company, or not, think who's in charge when your gone, or, maybe who's NOT in charge, when your gone! if your a private seller. keep it honest! and quick!! people like quick! sometimes our honesty is too slow to come, and that make us look bad, so quick is definetly good! people like yourself need parts, and ask questions!!! and this is when the person that never really got satisfied, has one little chance to spread the news about their personal experience. if, they had taken care of me, up front, i would have raved about it, because we all make mistakes! it's how we correct them, that really counts! i bet i know who your not going to be dealing with....reputation is everything.
  22. if you like good music, im going to spoil you now folks! if you have never heard of them, your in for a real treat! i guarantee you"ll forget about the rest. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...nce&s=music if the above link address does not work. just google the following group name " big joe and the dynaflows" bob maher is the singer of this wild jump blues group. the album you want is called " layin in the alley" in that cd album he's got a 1949 buick grill spread across it. it even has the detroit option van auklin tall bumperettes. here's a buick man singin' the blues. every song is beyond good!
  23. not this snow ball.......turn left at the next one!
  24. a never registered demo sale,is put into it's own class regarding a dealerships floor plan, with their bank! i think the "demo" miles are limited to 6, or,7,000 miles before they have to sell it. check your sales agreement paperwork for the mileage statement reading when it was transfered to you! depending on what the mileage statement says, this might be an interesting piece of information for a question that you can ask your states attorney's office. and yes! this was a minor repair and they have offered to repair it, but you purchased a new car, and the fact remains that you are the one running around, and it's not a pleasant experience is it! on the other hand, they know they did a crappy job the first time, and im sure the bodyshop will do a better job this time, do you really want to involve another bodyshop? i don't think so, your running around enough already! i highly doubt you would ever advance into a dealership/manufacturer/customer arbitration. the manufacturer's preliminary investigation would remove themselves from the situation, determined by the fact that the vehicle was delivered and accepted by the dealership without damage! Unless it was damaged during delivery!!!! then, the manufacture may be somewhat involved, but most likely turn over the responsibility to the shipping/trucking company, which is a known fact that happens frequently. the original delivery document removes the manufacturer from any liability in this case, and your dealership knows this already, that's why they offered to repair it already, they are not stupid! another fact that happens within a dealership is, when a demo car is damaged by a salesperson, or, manager in sales, service, or parts, or, even by the owner is pretty much a known fact and joked about at the coffee break among everyone in the dealership! most, or, all dealerships today have computer generated repair orders that are easily retrieved using the cars vehicle I.D.numbers, all they need to do is press a few buttons to review the bodyshop repair order,if it was repaired there, even if it wasn't, they will have paperwork to show who they paid to repair the vehicle. when small repairs are preformed at bodyshops, you would hope the person doing the job spends most of his time banging the metal out, and forming the metal before applying body filler, it's possible that they didn't properly form the metal first, and slapped too much filler in it... at this point it seems that getting it repaired, and never deal with them again, might be the best solution, make sure you ask them specific questions regarding how the last repair was done, and discuss what the proper method would be to make this repair last. i know sometime's they cannot replace entire panels, and panel repairs are more in line, but atleast they will know that you are aware of what's going on, and if you have this conversation with their bodyshop technician or even better the bodyshop manager, you might be doing yourself a big favor, and they will stay on top of the way your vehicle is repaired! also, don't expect too much, but i would be amazed if you were able to get this dealership to give you an open ticket for this particular repair for the life of the vehicle, you will get the standard repair warranty which could be from the moment you sign the work order as accepted when you pick up the car. "ask them what type of bodyshop work warranty they have in place" make sure you ask this before you sign anything and take custody of the repaired vehicle, and don't forget to inspect the car in good lighting before you sign and take the car,im guessing that will be the extent of the dealerships responsibility! if i had one question to ask a states attorney regarding the responsibilities of this dealership, it would be: can a dealership sell a demo car that has been repaired without fully disclosing that information to the prospective owner? you might be interested in doing this first now that i think of it, just for your peace of mind, you never know! you might be blazing a new territory for others. don't forget to find out if there are limited miles for "DEMO" car sales in your state.... let us know!, make that one phone call! it wont cost you a dime! maybe, a quarter though!!! dennis
  25. i hope the women that got scammed is reading this. i also recieved several e.mails from OWEN GODWIN, and his alternate man in london england wanted the extra amount wired back to him prior to my cars inspection, i did not fall for any of it, but i did comply with all his requests and sent pictures, names and addresses, i wanted to string this guy out and play each e.mail and phone call he made to me out as far as i could until he could be traced, i know there was nobody that would help me instantly that i could call, the standard response was that they knew about these scams, and blah! blah! blah. i had this guy calling me at least 50 times in the december, not to mention, e.mails beyond belief! he wanted his money sent to a specific place in london, a western union, i told him i did send it, then several calls to tell me nothing arrived, i just acted stupid, as it was my first time, then it was just before christmas, i was home and my phone system at home was the first break i had.... you see, he was so sure i had sent the money, he was hell bent to call me for the 10 digit number code, and name that goes with the western union wire.....im skipping over alot of information, but i need to tell you that,(i map quested the western union he wanted me to send the money wire to, and i picked another western union about1-2 hours away from that site, and he called me back kinda pissed off, so again i employed my stupid act, cause he said he went there, and there was no money wire to his ficticious named he supplied, i was laughing inside.) now back to the story: my home phone blocks all unidentified callers, this forced him to lower his guard, he was betting on me that i was a genuine dummy, so he must have called from his home phone just to get through to my home line during the holiday, i finally got a caller id number when he frantically called me back during christmas holiday!HE WANTED THAT MONEY BAD!this was his number on my caller I.D> 1-305-433-7487 wow! i called the phone company, and one call led to the final phone carrier, but they told me i needed a court order to retrieve the owners name and address. but they didn't know the prior phone companies i called to get to them at least gave me the place. it was BIG PINE KEY, FLORIDA i was in control of the situation, and waited for his next call, well..it happened within an hour, i answered the phone, it was OWEN GODWIN looking for his 10 digit code number for the western union wire, so as it stood i gave it to him, i figured his telephone number was 10 digits long, so what the heck, let's try it! so i gave him his own telephone number back in this order 30 50433 74 87. it worked like a charm, but i figured by the time his man goes back to the western union in london and gives them this number he would have figured it all out, NOT! he calls back about 3 hours later, with disappointment in his voice, by now, im killing myself laughing inside, and since i knew i was out of weapons, i had to let him know everything, so i answered the phone in my passive tone, he sounded very anxious, and i said hey! wait a minute, is this OWEN GODWIN, from big pine key florida,..there was a pause so long, you could drive a truck through it, he replied to me and said my name again, i repeated to him, is this OWEN GODWIN from big pine key florida, another long pause, he said are you tracking me, i said of course i am you idiot! how do you think i know where you live!!!! he was astonished and at lost for words, i told him, MR owen or, whoever you are, all of america is laughing at you right now! and if you ever call me or anyone else like this, im coming down to pay you a visit, are you reading me on this!!!!......then another pause, he said i am in spain, and i said no your not, your in big pine key florida.....then i heard a click so i called him back at that number, because i knew i had him on the run, he was very frightened because he said " are you tracking me" so all the calls i made back to him right after he hung up on me, where getting answered, but now he was hanging up very quickly, i guess he figured that if he let it go into his answering machine, that i would still be able to trace him, so i called back for the next 5 minutes just to let him know it was me. he has never once called me at home or work again, which i know these bastards are pretty brave and they badger you afterwards! in conclusion, i still have the bank check from chase bank in houston as my trophy, and i did speak with the banks fraud unit several times, and i showed them the check, which was an old issue copy, i offered them the phone number and location if they wanted to pursue this guy that was forging their bank checks, but nothing! i really don't care at this point, the law has got their hands full with bigger fish to fry, and apparently, this bank feels the same way. but feel free if you want to e.mail this creep karsautos@yahoo.com or, try to call him in florida, 1-305-433-7487. i wonder if he pulled every wire out of the wall, he sounded and acted pretty scared!! i hope you enjoyed this, at least this guy spent ton's of money and time on me! im sure his buddy in london, england is also pretty mad!!! thanks, dennis.
