  1. How about a '60 Lesabre wagon with no options! stick, manual steering & brakes, poverty steering wheel, clear glass. Boring in it's day and now quite interesting. How do we get so obsessed with all this stuff? Mitch
  2. My father was a member of that club. Some famous quotes.... Bring that car in my driveway and I'll take a hammer to it. Wadda ya need it for? 2 bit moron. I'll not have that here. Whadda ya want with that piece 'a s*** for anyway? He is long gone and my 13 year old boy isn't the least interested in cars. Mitch
  3. I have everything you need. Where are you located?
  4. OK Richard: Of course there were 1960 Buick cop cars! How do I know this? I saw them featured in an article in the Buick Salesmaster newsletter,a rag sent out to all those Royal purples and other sales people not so great. In those years a Buick salesman (I don't believe there were any women) stayed with the house they worked for, for a much longer period of employment. Today a clerk at Macdonalds restaurant stays on the job longer. And how do I know that?????????????? Because I eat there and I used to call on new car dealers as a car wholesaler. There were also many communities that liked to trade with all their local dealers so Buicks could have appeared on the scene as well as other makes. Mitch.
  5. Richard: Didn't you already get the deal of the century? Mitch.
  6. Here's the parts car dillema: You take parts off and of course that facillitates a big part of your restoration. Next you take off more parts for spares. OK. Next you find a place in your garage to warehouse all the stuff you think you might need in the future. Next maybe ebay, the club classifieds, swap meets and then you need to get rid of the carcas. Don't forget," Don't crush 'em, restore 'em. Are we having fun boys and girls??? Mitch.
  7. Here's a theory.........The 60 Electra 4 dr. post was a very strong car and had many positive things going for it. First, as an Electra 4 dr sedan it was sold new to the most conservative buyers. Usually people who's lives were impacted by the Great Depression. Values that reflected things like pride of ownership, extra care as to maintain value as well as reliability, and appreciating something that in the not too distant past was very hard to come by. That type of person probably drove conservately as well. Add up the good maintanence, easy miles and a well made car from day 1 and you have a combination that resulted in longevity. Unfortunately, as the 60's moved on the styling became obsolete. Combine the less desireable 4 dr. post sedan , obsolete styling any major repair (transmission failure, rust out and a laundry list of little things) these babies were knocked in the head. I purchased my first 1960 Buick in 1970 for $50. I found it in the back yard of a local garage. I drove it home. In case you are wondering what it was , it was an every option dark blue 4829. Mitch.
  8. How bout a good old 4 dr. 67 lesabre for a grand? In California too! Mitch.
  9. OK Everybody; I need to get rid of my 65 Lesabre. The good and the bad. The bad First. It's a 4 dr.ht. It's really rough. Body is banged around and interior is hurtin. Engine has low compression and smokes. Now the good. I rescued it from the junk yard because I thought it might be worth saving. It is a custom, 400, blue with a white top and has power windows, a/c tilt, road wheels and all that impressed me. It has relativly very little rust, mostly original paint (shot), the interior can be made nice with not tooo much work and........it actually runs and drives. (don't drive it) I like a 60 Buick, 63 64 and 65 Riv and 66 Wildcat and Lesabres. Trades are cool or cash. I am asking $300. obo A California title in your name can be available with current tags for a reasonable amount. Any takers? Mitch lrlforfun@aol.com
  10. OK Everybody: I have made an appointment to get my head examined. I am driving my 65 Riviera GS as a daily driver. I lost my company car so to speak, and that's what I had kicking around. It ran lousy and the first tank was 8.7 mpg. I changed oil, put some Marvel's Mystery Oil in the crankcase and some Berryman's B-12 in the tank. I also put on a new gas cap. Next I took it on the freeway and blew the living daylights out of it. When I got to the freeway exit it was idling like a kitten, smooth and much less stink. At $2.57 for regular it gets expensive. I try to use my wife's Honda when ever possible. Another observation: The glut of old (special interest) cars has dissappeared in this area, the San Francisco, East Bay. Mitch.
  11. OK New Jersey: I have a fan shroud from a 59 Electra sedan with fact a/c. It's not worth much, maybe $25. or so and the shipping is a pain. Got any 60 stuff to trade? Mitch.

    1960 Buick

OK '60 Buick: Does your inventory include the ones you're getting from me? Mitch.
  13. Just a thought: S l o w on a 307 Olds could mean a few things, a clogged exhaust, low compression(rare),low torque multiplication from the transmission or maybe frozen weights in the distributor. Easy enough to check out. You may want to try Marvels Mystery Oil with your next oil change and a couple of cans of Berrymans B-12 in the gas tank . Good luck, Mitch.
  14. OK Gary: I have a 66 Lesabre coupe I'm cuttin' up. No rust and a good rr 1/4 panel. I am in No. California. Buy the shell and trailer it home! 510-582-6225 in the pm. It probably will be worth your while because the price is cheep cheep. The undercarriage of this car looks like a 2 year old car. Mitch.
  15. I have seen this car .It was at Parker Robb Chevrolet in Walnut creek in 1981.I know it was 1981 because I was going with Nadine at the time. (Nadine is another story far more interesting than any 60 Buick) A friend told me about it because he had an elderly Aunt living in Rossmore Leisure World, a retirement village. He visited her often and tracked some of the old people's cars. Knowing my thing for 60 Buicks,he couldnt wait to tell me about it.......as a matter of fact, Kevin, of Kevin & Ray also told me about it. I did see it downtown Oakland once and several years later it appeared in a Hemmings add (had to be the same one) in Lafayate, Ca. for 15 geez. I first found out about an Invicta Custom in the summer of 1966 when one of the lot guys at the Buick dealer told me about one. It was then I wanted one and didn't find one until 1984. This was a chalet blue coupe with a/c. I got it from Texas and had it shipped to my car lot in San Leandro. That was a happy day. Just ask my wife. She was there when the car carrier hauled it in. I was excited. The titian red one came a few years later, next the brown wagon and out of nowhere another titian/white coupe. I found a pair of 60's in 1984. One was a white 225 convert with most options except a/c and with it a fully loaded pearl fawn/white tri tone Custom wagon. the chick wanted 800 for the pair and at that time I didn't bite. You couldn't miss this chick. She had a big kitty next to the Buicks, a huge mountain lion. The guy that got the pair used the wagon for a parts car then junked it! I told him and it was too late. I did manage to get the bucket seats out of it. So in the meantime I found a couple of IC converts and for some reason I didn't pick up on them. Maybe someday I will have one.I did manage to find the almost identical twin to my parents 60 Lesabre and it felt like I got a piece of my life back. Mitch
  16. In about January, 1974 I got a call from a car wholesaler friend of mine. Maple Buick of South Orange ,N.J. had taken in trade a 65 Riv. We were too late, they wholesaled it to a car lot that sold the worst looking cars. After brief deliberation my friend and I went to look at it. It was a 65 Riv all right. It was so dirty from the snow that we couldn't tell what color it was and the price was an outrageous........$850. Gas lines for weeks, looking terrible and an outrageous price and stupid me shelled out the dough and got it. With 119k on the odo I didn't expect much. it ran kind of rough too. I knew my father would kill me so I hid it in the garage. A few days after it warmed up and I took it out and began to clean it up. Yes,you guessed it! A 1 owner '65 Riviera GRAND SPORT with 19,000 ORIGINAL miles. Black with a saddle custom interior. I had wire caps on my 66 Lesabre and put them on the Riv. I thought it couldn't be real. And that's my story. Mitch P.S. I sold the car not too long after that (some of the profit financed my move to the Bay Area that July)and in may of 1976 found the exact twin to it in Los Angeles,Ca. That one is in my driveway as I am writing this now!
  17. HI: I have been looking for this model for a loooooooooong time. Mor info please. Mitch lrlforfun
  18. I am looking to buy at a 66 Lesabre with a dead 340 engine. Is it easy to install a 400,430 or 455 Buick engine in this car? In other words ,will it fit in with the same labor as the 340 engine? Mitch
