  1. right on, I was hoping to not have to do that, but it seems that's the only way, unless i want to pull the body again... thanks!
  2. Anybody ever done this? I ordered all lines from Inline and I'm trying to install the main gas line from the sending unit to fuel pump. I can't seem to finagle it to get through the 3 spots where the body mounts to the chassis. any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. what is the best way to remove a windshield from a '53 Super? And how should I safely store a windshield? I'll be taking it in to a shop in the next few months to get painted so i'd like to take this time to remove both the windshield and back glass and replace the rubber. The stainless trim comes out with the glass, correct?

Remember the 59's and 60's with the fins? Or the 58 with the massive chrome? Not to mention the 55's, 56's and 57's. How about further back to the 47's and 48's. Cars today are all so alike that it about makes me puke. Rave all you like about the Enclave, I'm not impressed. Buick needs to bring back some 'retro' cars with names like 'Invicta', 'Wildcat', 'Electra 225' and 'GS 400'. Wouldn't you like to see a retro late 60's GS 400 or retro 59 Invicta? Now that would get my heart beating again for a Buick. </div></div> I concur. retro is SO in with my young-ish crowd (i'm 31) if there was a way to mix classic styling with energy efficient features (or possibly even a hybrid!) I honestly think it would do wonders for Buick and GM. I'm telling you, young professionals who have some money to spend and around the ages of 28 - 40 are very much hip to the "green" movement AND retro styling (and not just with cars)
  5. I agree. I heard a joke on Klick n Klack a few weekends ago. went something like this... "This just in... Buick tied with Volvo in Safety Standard Ratings for Consumer Reports. Then again, what can go wrong at 25 MPH" and I felt bad, but I swear I laughed out loud while driving my Subaru. I wonder if Buick's market ever was the teenage/20 something, though. It seems that they were marketing young professionals and couples who wanted a little bit of luxury without springing for a Caddy. (at least until the 60's with the advent of muscle cars) My Dad drives his parents' old '98 or '99 lesabre. I drive it every time I go home. And I would love to say that I get excited about it, but honestly the car drives me bonkers. Mechanically the car is fine, but all the accessories and buttons and bells and whistles inside are confusing, in the way, cluttered, etc. The parts do seem cheap too. and on the outside, the design is just so dinky and NOT classic. And on another note, my brother drove our same grandparents' early 90's skylark. same as above. Young professionals and couples are looking towards energy efficient, inexpensive alternatives. Remember when Buicks were inspiring? Well take a look. The Maserati quattroporte even sports ventiports. Point being that Buick's influence is around. That Lucerne CXS that they are raffling off in Washington looks okay. I would love to see suicide doors, OVAL ventiports and a two tone paint job on a modern Buick.
  6. thanks willie, i think i'll use your flat washer method to be on the safe side!
  7. Anybody know how to remove and install the hood springs on a '53 Super? Is there a special tool? Thanks in advance!
  8. oh man, i'd love to grab the '53 specials! I use CL for other stuff and never even thought of using it for cars. thanks lamar.
  9. ah sweet, thanks you guys! It's great to be back. I'm going out there right now to sift through. Bill, I may just do what you suggest. That sounds like good idea. Lamar, indeed I am in Athens now. I'll send you a PM. Thanks everybody.
  10. Howdy all! It's been a real long time, had to put my baby on the back burner for a while, but I'm back in the game. Does anybody know what is chrome and what is stainless on a 1953 Super? I'm sending stuff out to be rechromed and I don't want to forget anything. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between stainless and chrome? It seems that a lot of the trim pieces are actually stainless like the sweep spear and even the headlight bezels look stainless to me. Thanks!
  11. hey all, i just bought another '53 Super for parts and for a body swap. both cars are in north carolina along with the manuals. I live in nashville, tn. I'm going home on memorial day weekend to get stuff situated with the cars. i'd like to get a set of new body mounts for the body swap. could someone tell me how many there are and where i could get them? thanks a billion!
  12. Does anybody happen to be in the North Platte, Nebraska area? I'm really interested in getting this car, but i'm in Nashville, TN. I'm looking for a decent solid body. i know there's a big hit on the driver's side door. that's not a big deal for me. I'm just concerned with and want to stay away from major rust through in critical structural areas (rocker panels, roof, etc.) even the floor boards i could deal with. I don't need any mechanical stuff. All i'm concerned with is the core body. i just want to know if it is decent shape. If anybody is in that area and has the time to look it over, i'd appreciate any info or opinions on it. THANKS!!
  13. i'm glad you found the right hose Trevor. i too have been disappointed with Cars. the only thing i can say good about them, is that i sent them all 4 of my shocks off my '53 to have them rebuilt. i've talked to them and had similar "snotty, poor attitude, why are you bothering us" attitude from them. they did a good job on the shocks, however the packaging for the shipment was absurd. it was one poor, used box with newspaper and about 10 peanuts for both shocks. by the time i received them, one of the arms of the shocks was poking out of the decrepit box. granted ups handles shipments poorly, but EVERYBODY knows that, hence packaging for such items as these should be wrapped in bubble, spaced with sufficient peanuts or balled up newspaper and DOUBLE boxed. but maybe i'm being picky. i've had great luck with Bob's as mentioned above as well as classicbuicks. classicbuicks don't have as much stuff, but i've been satisfied with the parts they do have, their communication/updates on orders and shipment. Buickfarm is great too. i hope the new move will be good!
  14. i take it you're using the body? i really, really, really need a solid body. '53 2 door Hardtop Super or Roadmaster.
  15. hey john, can i still get the body, remaining glass and rolling chassis? thanks! -will eskridge nashville, tn
  16. i used to live in charleston you know. that's where i first got naomi. and yes a roadmaster would work!
  17. thanks joe, for the lead in ny. i'll look into that. hey lamar. i've been off-scene the whole fall and winter. getting settled here in nashville, getting a job and a place. and then the holidays. a little crazy but nothing i can't handle. now that i'm fairly settled, i've started back into the buick again of course. getting amped to continue my project for the spring and summer! hey if you get a chance, go see a band called "the velvet swells" they are friends of mine from charleston, sc. they just moved to athens. hope all is well!
  18. I'm in need of a 1953 Super 56 R 2 Door Hardtop Donor/Parts Car. I'm actually just in need of a solid body. The current one i have is rusted in places it seems beyond repair. I don't need an engine or tranny. I really don't need any mechanical parts. I've done all that work myself and had the engine and trans rebuilt. interior i don't need either. i'm just looking for a good solid body. if anybody knows of or has one i'm highly interested. you can email me at ventiports@yahoo.com thanks!
  19. I unfortunately did not receive my october bugle. This is Will Eskridge. My BCA # is 39536. My address is 108 Hardin Drive, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 Thanks!
  20. were you using an old message to reply? cause i changed my email about a month ago and updated my profile on here with the new address.
  21. thanks ya'll! i got the engine and tranny back in the bay no problem. i was just about 3 inches shy of connecting to the rear end. the whole car is up on jack stands. so anyways i connected the torque ball boot and shims, etc. that was where i was having a problem. i rotated one of the rear wheels to line up the spline. i used a rolling floor jack to jack up the trans (while the engine was still hooked up to the cherry-picker) then i used two guide bolts to pull the rear end and engine/trans together. worked like a charm. went back today to install the thrust pad and plate. thanks for the help everybody! now i'm off to move to nashville tommorrow!
