1. Still nothing in Indianapolis. Wassup?
2. I just pulled out the trunk liner in my 62 Electra ragtop. Can someone describe what it's supposed to look like? Here's what I found 1. Cardboard formed on left and right sides to cover the inside of the quarters and the lower trunk hinge brackets. They were painted black but it looks like they used to be gray. 2. The remainder of the trunk pan and area under the boot was covered with black fuzzy cloth. Everything was glued in. 3. Under the black cloth was a layer of foam rubber backed cloth glued over the entire bottom, including the area under the boot. The cloth almost looks like burlap but it's not as heavy. 4. The lowest part of the pan had a piece that looked almost like tarpaper but was a little heavier. Ok; was I pulling out the original stuff? It would seem to me that the trunk would be gray, not black. Was it just the cloth that was replaced? For those of you that want the 'near original' look, how did you replace this stuff? At least I have a solid pan under all that stuff. Thanks Jerry
3. I've been thinking about converting my 62 Electra to a dual master cylinder just to be a little safer. Anyone have an idea what cylinder to use? Do I have to replace the power brake booster? With what? It's my understanding that I don't have to go to a proportioning valve unless I convert to disk brakes. Agree?
4. Have you talked to them? Their process is to vulcanize a whitewall onto a production tire. I'm no tire expert but I'd think that if they can get a bias tire, they should be able to put a whitewall on it.
5. Go to www.widewhitewalltires.com. They'll make a whitewall in whatever size you want.
6. Try Eastwood at www.eastwoodcompany.com. They have fuel tank internal coatings. I tried it and never had any trouble. I'm guessing that you could take your tank to a pro and have the holes welded shut. I wouldn't try it myself since those fumes in the tank will go boom.
7. I have a 62 Electra convertible. I need the dash courtesy lights and console courtesy light lense.
8. Ok, it's an Olds but you guys will know the answer. I have a friend with a 57 Olds Super 88. He just bought it and put new wheels and tires on it. He's getting a vibration at about 50 mph. He thinks it's in the rear. He's had the tires re-balanced and the driveshaft rebuilt and re-balanced. No change. The engine at idle will rev up all the way and has no vibration. What are your thoughts? (Ok; I already suggested trading it for a Buick and he wouldn't bite.)
9. I usually frequent the Buick site which is in the same format as this site. I thought I'd pop over here to ask an Olds question. I have a friend with a 57 Olds 88 2dr that needs radial tires. We're trying to figure out what size tire was on the car new so that we can come close to the same diameter with the radial tire. Can someone help?
10. Wow! I just got home from Flint. We drove our 62 Electra 225 ragtop and had a ball. My hat's off to the Michigan chapter and Buick and all those folks that brought those beautiful cars (and trucks) to Flint. I'm can't seem to wipe that smile off my face. We drove 'ole blue' 875 miles at 75-80 MPH and she did fine. She got a little over 14 MPG. I'd bet I could get 16 if I could stop using that second set of barrels. Oh well, they're loaded so I may as well use them. I'm pretty happy with that car. To all of you that worked so hard to plan and support this event; thanks. I had a great time. 11. Interesting! I was looking for a ground and didn't think I saw one. Are you saying that the motor grounds through its body through the seat to the floor pan? If that't the case, I'd bet my POR15 is getting in the way.
12. I took my dash and steering column apart this winter to restore the interior on my 62 Electra. It's back together with a few problems: 1. Tranny won't hold in park. 2. Right turn signal won't cancel. 3. No power to the drivers seat motor. I haven't traced anything for the motor. I'm more concerned about what I've done to the steering column. What are your ideas?
13. I have a '62 Electra, 401, 4bbl with automatic. The car seems to run fine but she doesn't come out of the hole very quick. In fact, it seems like it's working pretty hard to get up to speed. She's full of tranny fluid and the engine is tuned. Can you point me to a procedure that would help me determine if I should take her to a tranny shop? I hate to take it there without having a feel for what to expect.
14. We're driving our 62 Electra 225 ragtop. She's dressed in her new interior and ready to cruise. See ya there.
15. Hmmm! This is not a good sign. Anybody know if a 62 (or any other year) Impala door handle with interchange?
16. Well, I didn't get anywhere with that. Any ideas where I can get a good pair and then have them re-chromed?
17. I'm looking for a set of show (or really nice) door handles for a 62 Electra. Email me with description and price at jerryacheson@iquest.net. What other models interchange?
18. I'm pretty sure you can find a chart at Coker Tire (www.coker.com) I think you can find a chart at Diamond Back Classics too. (www.widewhitewalltires.com) Ok; I went and looked at Coker. They call for P225-75R15
19. Come by Bud Wolf Chevrolet, 54th & Keystone, Indianapolis, IN for an all GM car show on Saturday, April 26th. Email me for details.
20. Yup! I started with a big brass drift and finished it with my 7/16" deep socket. I may try the RTV idea.
21. I found that the tubes were crushed to an oval shape. I'm guessing that the new clamps just didn't comform to that shape. I've fixed the tubes and I'm going to try to put it back together to see how it goes. I'll try running the car up to temperature for awhile before I install the new carpet. (Just in case.)
22. This thing looks pretty good and it holds 50 inches of vacuum. I'm wondering if I just didn't get the new heater hoses tight enough and they were leaking into the firewall. I'm going to put it back together and see what happens. I was afraid that I'd have to re-core it. However, I'm afraid to take that valve off the end of it for fear it won't re-seal.
23. I need a 62 Electra heater core w/o air. I tried Buick Farm and CARS and neither have it in their catalog. What are your ideas?
24. www.brakebooster.com They do great work.
