1. I thought this would be easy, but.... I just finished detailing the engine on my 62 401. My manual says to take the passenger side valve cover off (# 1 cylinder is on the passenger side isn't it?). Turn the engine over until the timing marks on the harmonic balancer are aligned and the valves on #1 are closed. Set the distributor so the vacuum advance points to where is was before I started (pointing to the passenger side rear bolt on the intake) and the rotor is pointing just to the right of the vacuum advance. Ok; so it won't start. What's wrong with the above procedure? It appears that on both the exhaust and intake stroke the #1 valves are closed when the timing marks are aligned on the harmonic balancer. Is there a better set of instruction than what's in my Chasis Service Manual. What am I doing wrong?

3. Jeff,
Can you check your email address in your profile. I've been trying to email you for 2 days and keep getting failure notices.
I just wanted to let you know I saw your Invicat at Kokomo and I think you've got a very nice car. Congratulations.
Jerry
4. This was my first BCA convention so I went back up to Kokomo on Saturday to see the trailer queens. Wow! There were some pretty awesome cars on display. I really enjoyed it. We're already talking about next year's convention around my house. See ya there.
5. I'm not an expert on Buicks but I'd guess the parts were a good mix of 50's and 60's.
6. The rose 62 is not mine as you noted. It's in the swap area for sale. It's pretty straight, but not perfect. Judging from the body and interior, I'd expect the car to be about a 920 pointer. I didn't look underneath or in the engine area. Nice driver. The paint looks pretty good but it's got some flaws. The car was a salty $18,500. I'm going back up on Saturday. Want his phone number? Of course, you could have my ragtop for that number.
7. Congratulations Linda. If you have some time on Friday or Saturday this week you may want to run up to Kokomo to the Heritage Museum on the North bypass (31). The BCA is having their national show. I was there today and they have some pretty nice cars up there. I don't know about other clubs but there's one in Indianapolis that's hosting the event in Kokomo this weekend. Jack Jones is the president. Call him at Dellen Buick Pontiac GMC (800-927-9231}. Home number is 317-846-0748. I'd bet you can find him in Kokomo this weekend though.
I'm thinking about joining their club too.
Jerry
62 Electra 225 Convertible
8. Ever seen a Hupmobile? I saw three today. What about a Haynes? I saw two, including the second one ever made.
9. I just got back home (to Indianapolis) from Kokomo. There were some pretty nice Buicks up there and the swapmeet wasn't bad either. Lots of cars were still rollin' in as I was leaving. Better get to Kokomo. Oh yea! GM had some pretty neat cars on display too. The Heritage Museum is no slouch either. Stop in and see some pretty rare cars.
10. That's consistent with what I'm seeing. Thanks.
11. What are you heating with? Cutting torch? Acetelyne soldering torch? ???
12. 62 Electra, 401 4bbl.
The vacuum tube that goes from the front of the intake along the drivers side valve cover to the power brake booster is painted Buick green on my car. Should it be natural or green or ???
Also, the lower bracket for the generator (mounts to the exhaust manifold) appears to have been Buick green. Is that correct; or, should it be black or natural. The piece is aluminum.
Thanks.
Jerry
13. I have a 62 Electra with 401 4bbl. I'm trying to detail the engine compartment. I would have thought the oil breather caps would be black but they appear to have been Buick green. What color should they be?
14. I have a 62 Electra 401 4bbl. It has an old style glass bowl fuel filter. Is that correct? I'm trying to clean several coats of green paint off of it. My initial thought was that the aluminum top was natural. However, it appears that the thing was originally yellow. What color would it have been?
15. Can you make the car squeal in the driveway or is it just when it's on the road. Arthur's idea is a good one. Use the hose like a stethiscope. Put one end to your ear and use the other like a wand to point to various places on the car. When you get close to the noice, you'll know. Good luck.
16. When I get in trouble I go to NAPA. They don't let me down.
17. Anybody out ther have a 67 Electra? Does the following emblem match the ones on the side of your car?
18. Ira,
I have the matching 'Electra' script.
Jerry
19. Maybe Netscape was down. It just came up for me. Please try again.
20. Surely someone knows what this came off of.
21. Can you tell me what year Electra this emblem came from? Can you help me find one?
I just found a part that looks like this on eBay and it's for the trunk on a 67. Are the trunk and side pieces the same size? I was already wondering if this was a 67 part. It looks like the one on a 66 but the numbers are separate on the 66 from what I can see in my parts catalog. Unfortunately, my catalog only goes to 66.
[ 05-30-2002: Message edited by: Jerry Acheson ]
22. Mine need re-chromed. Is there a place to get new ones? Are Impala door handles the same? Should I just have mine chromed? Any ideas?
23. I found a guy in Detroit that took the face off of my original radio and put it on a modern one. The radio looks original and sounds great. He can also tie in a CD player if you want. My radio cost $400. Interested?
